“A must see but beware of picture crawing tourists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

It is an attraction you really musn't miss if visiting Pisa and it is beautiful, especially with all of the details in contruction. Other than that is it packed with tourists, more focused on getting the right picture taken that actually admiring the buildings. I reccommend seeing the cathedral and for 2€ each check the the Baptistry and the Camposanto. The admission for the tower is overpriced!

“A Great Site, But Brace for the Crowds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Even on a cloudy, rainy day in May, the piazza is jammed with tourists who look just like you in their efforts to get a photo of the Tower without it being obscured by heads of strangers bobbing in the foreground. Forget about it - you'll be there for a month trying to get a clean photo of any of the magnificent buildings.

Walk the piazza, enjoy the Tower, take the tour, then pay 40 euro for a horse drawn carriage ride tour and get the heck out of the crowds.

“Just Go”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

The most beautiful Piazza anywhere, go and enjoy the beauty, and the market stalls. But don't get caught out with pushy street sellers with fake goods !!!

“Beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

It was a beautiful sight, especially considering that the small town of Pisa doesn't have any buildings in other areas around that we noticed as spectacular.

“Field of Miracles Indeed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

The Campo dei Miracoli is a stunning sight achieved only after trudging past stall after stall of cheesy souvenirs that include resin versions of the classic leaning tower and underpants printed with Michelangelo's David, well, with some of his parts. You turn the corner, and step through the gate and gaze in awe at the sight of the beautifully carved creamy white marble of the Duomo, the Baptistry, and the Leaning Tower.

The three are set on impossibly green lawns roped off by chains attached to marble posts. Beyond is the Camposanto, an enclosed cemetery filled with splendid tombs of knights in armor, many from the time of the Crusades. Most of the buildings here are Romanesque in style and date from the 11th and 12th centuries. Take plenty of time to check out all of the buildings here.

There is also a museum and dozens of crowded restaurants off to the right. If you want to eat, I suggest a modest pizza place called Pizzaria Kiste on the Via Cardinale Maffi, 36. You can find it easily by walking straight back from the Duomo, past the leaning tower, to the gate. It's about a half block away. Check out my review of the Pizzaria Kiste and see the photo of the best pizza I've ever had, Il Vesuvio, a Pizza Ripieni with sauce coming through the steam vent. This was an experience in itself.
