Owner description: The Tower of Pisa (180 feet in height) was begun in 1173 and, due to its faulty foundation on unstable soil, leans precariously more than 14 feet out of line, preventing visitors from climbing its 300-plus steps to the top.

“See this icon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

You obviously have to stop at this icon while in Italy. We stopped as a group and you can meander through the many market stalls while heading to the tower. It's great to finally see it in real life. €18 to enter to climb is a bit steep, ( no pun intended ). If you have the energy then do it since entry to the tower was closed from 1988 to 2005 until it was stabilised
from falling further into a dangerous lean. I didn't submit a photo as they are all the same.

“Magnificient tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

The leaning tower of Pisa is even more magnificent in person. Forget about seeing it on TV or pictures, you have to see the real one. There were a lot of tourists and shops and restaurants, as well as souvenirs of the tower. There was a long wait to the tour of going into the tower, which is why we did not enter it. Before buying the ticket, they will inform you the available time to get in. Beware at the entrance; there are many people trying to sell you fake brands (they sometimes even follow you).

“No number of photos prepare you for the real thing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We thought we would spend no more than 2 hours in Pisa, climb up the tower, take some silly photos and go back "home" (to our apartment in Florence). Instead we spent more than half a day in town. The tower is simply brilliant, you look at it and you can't believe it's real :) Our kids decided they want to climb up (we followed the advice in our guide book, Florence & Tuscany with Kids, and booked the tickets for the tower in advance), while the adults relaxed on the grass near the Duomo. We then toured the Duomo itself, and the Battistero, which was surprisingly beautiful. I would say that this is a must see attraction, it really is special. The biggest draw back is the price, which we all felt was over the top (18 euro to climb up the tower).

“It is a real leaner !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Visited this historical landmark in May 1995 and was not disappointed, the structure, although undergoing repairs and was not open to visitation, was still a thing of beauty, there are many souvenir vendors nearby. One for the bucket list checked off !!( Had to say visited in Aug 2012 since the date selector is limited)
