Owner description: The Tower of Pisa (180 feet in height) was begun in 1173 and, due to its faulty foundation on unstable soil, leans precariously more than 14 feet out of line, preventing visitors from climbing its 300-plus steps to the top.

“Why else would you visit Pisa?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

You get half an hour to go up the leaning tower. It starts with a bit of info then you're free to climb the steps to the top! Great views once you get up there, I loved it. It was our main reason to visit Pisa on the way to Florence.

“A great sight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

It was a rare sight to see a structure leaning so much to one side and still standing. As an engineer, I am amazed by the amount if civil eng work put in to preserve the structure.
It was funny seeing tourists taking photos from far, posing as if they are pushing the tower back in place. If the tower does not interest you, the weird poses of the tourists would.

“Great to see but no good for little kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

We visited today driving 2hrs each way from Genoa with three kids (6,5& 3yr olds). We enjoyed seeing a famous landmark however you needed to be 8yrs and over to go inside any of the attractions within the area of the tower (which we didn't research prior). We got the standard 'pushing the tower over' photo which will be a nice memory but perhaps a revisit when the kids are older. Toilets are 50 cents per person but they are continually cleaned and were warm with a proper tiolet seat. You may also be harassed by people on the street offering to help you park and then asking for money or try to sell you something...if you don't pay you do feel your car is at risk...we parked a few streets back, paid the 1.25 euro per hour and walked head down to the tourist area!!!

“one of the wonders of medieval Europe.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

The process of stabilization undertaken in the last few decades has worked well and the Tower is there in all its splendor. beware: if you try to take a photo with your iphone, its software will straighten the tower, with very disappointing results!

“Another must-do ticked off”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012 via mobile

Buy your tickets and drop your bags off and wait for the next group to go up - yes, you can't go when you want, you have to wait for the next group. That, however, might be a good thing as it keeps the numbers down and also gives the guide a chance to tell the tower's story. The story is brief but informative and then you are left to climb the stairs yourself. Naturally they alternate from easy (on the downhill side) to harder (on the uphill) but they are over pretty quickly. One shame is the wire fencing which only allows unfeterred photos between the gaps, but there are enough gaps for all your photos.
Another must-do ticked off in a beautiful city of friendly people.
One nice touch is that the touts selling their tat are kept out of the area - take a hint Rome, Venice etc.
