We were staying at the Universo hotel in the same square. It was pouring with rain, so we did not want to venture too far and get a soaking. We walked out of the hotel's reception and saw this restaurant, but it looked empty inside and outside, so we searched elsewhere. We looked at a few places nearby, but decided to go back to the hotel. We expected the worst as we entered Giglio, as it looked completely empty. We were so surprised when they led us into a side room that was nearly full.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. The dining room is elegant old world style with a high ceiling and huge mirrors. Large tables with nice table clothes and cutlery.
We both chose the set menu. We received a free glass of Prosecco and some canapes. First course was wonderful brushetta. We've had it numerous times, but this was packed with flavour and the bread crispy. Main was a huge 1kg T bone steak (for 2). They don't ask you how you would like it - why should they? It was served perfectly medium rare, as good steak should be. It came with nice fried potatoes and white beans. Desert was a home made chocolate tart with cream. All delicious. Euro 70 for 2 for 3 courses, prosecco, bread and water - fab value
Service was quiet and efficient. The waitress recommended a reasonably priced bottle of red. Coffee to finish - all for euro 97. High quality and great value.
A great meal in a lovely dining room.
