“Not what we expected inside - superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

We were staying at the Universo hotel in the same square. It was pouring with rain, so we did not want to venture too far and get a soaking. We walked out of the hotel's reception and saw this restaurant, but it looked empty inside and outside, so we searched elsewhere. We looked at a few places nearby, but decided to go back to the hotel. We expected the worst as we entered Giglio, as it looked completely empty. We were so surprised when they led us into a side room that was nearly full.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. The dining room is elegant old world style with a high ceiling and huge mirrors. Large tables with nice table clothes and cutlery.

We both chose the set menu. We received a free glass of Prosecco and some canapes. First course was wonderful brushetta. We've had it numerous times, but this was packed with flavour and the bread crispy. Main was a huge 1kg T bone steak (for 2). They don't ask you how you would like it - why should they? It was served perfectly medium rare, as good steak should be. It came with nice fried potatoes and white beans. Desert was a home made chocolate tart with cream. All delicious. Euro 70 for 2 for 3 courses, prosecco, bread and water - fab value

Service was quiet and efficient. The waitress recommended a reasonably priced bottle of red. Coffee to finish - all for euro 97. High quality and great value.

A great meal in a lovely dining room.

“Old World Dining Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We thought the restaurant on the piazza looked just right and decided to give it a try. It was late and lunch was almost over but fortunately we were able to be seated in the charming dinning room. The heavy wooden tables and chairs, the gilded mirror over the fireplace, and the old fashioned green colored walls gave us a warm cozy feeling. We each ordered lamb which was served with asparagus and roasted potatoes and was out of this world. The ambience and delicious meal evoked a feeling of Sunday dinner at grandma's. Completing our meal outside on the piazza with coffee and desert we relaxed in the afternoon sun. Great meal, old fashioned ambience and warm friendly service. The Menu Turistico came to 53 Euro with wine, a real bargain for the value.

We happened upon this spot by accident and stopped for lunch. We had the menu of the day. Food was excellent, service top notch. A great spot.

“Fabulous food and outdoor setting, the worst, rude service of a lifetime.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Everything was excellent except the service. We were the second table of the evening and the last to be served. For some reason, the waiter didn't like us after the first hour. Never served us the main course. Two of the four of us got up and left to cause him to bring us the check. It was the first time In any of our four lives we have not left a tip. Very bad behavior.

Respectable Annie L,
We feel very sorry reading this review because we pay the utmost care in offering a professional and kind service. We do think the waiter was absolutely well disposed towards you.
But even in case - for some reason - he wasn't, we would have preferred you to report immediately to me,the manager, and i would have done anything needed to fix the dinner to your needs.
In any case, we apologize for service errors and we hope you'll give us the chance to change your opinion in the future.
Regards,
Paola Barbieri

“Highly Recommended for Dinner in Lucca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

A friend from Lucca took us to Giglio when we visited him and all I can say is WOW. The setting is very elegant, the service is attentive, and the food is first rate. I had the boar meat pasta for a first and the salt cod for a second course. Both were exceptionally good. The salt cod was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever seen and eaten. Some true geniuses were at work in the kitchen. The dessert menu is also first rate. This was among the best meals we had during our trip to Tuscany. Highly recommended!
