“Charming B&B in the medieval heart of Lucca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

We could not have wished for a friendlier welcome from owner Daniela and her assistant Anil at this elegant, small B&B, centrally yet quietly located in our favourite small Italian city.
Part of a Lucchese nobleman's house, San Lorenzo has only five bedrooms. Ours was La Boheme, a small but comfortable double with a large, comfy bed, a good shower, and a welcome (though somewhat noisy at full blast) air-conditioning unit. Nice touches included free mineral water and soft drinks in a mini-bar, wifi and the loan of a guide book in English.
Breakfast, served in a delightful room, consisted of a small choice of cereals, toast, croissant, cakes and eggs cooked to order. Daniela was helpful in checking the bus timetable for our trip back to Pisa airport and was an altogether gracious hostess. The cost of a night's stay was very reasonable in peak season at 100 euros per night with breakfast. We hope to return.

I had 2 nights booked in August. They claimed I didn't have a reservation, I had my email confirmation from them. They called and sent me to another hotel. It had no A/C, ripped me off on the price. I stayed one night.... thanks Relais San Lorenzo for ruining my trip in Lucca!!!!!

What a genuinely lovely greeting we received when we arrived at Relais San Lorenzo. I forget the name of the lady but her warm friendly demeanour and helpful attitude, which included the loan of a local guide book in English, was greatly appreciated.

I don't think you could get a better base to explore the old town of Lucca and the surrounding area if you tried. Finding the B&B by following the instructions on the website worked a charm (we didn't even have a map at this point).

The room was beautiful with high ceilings, Regency furniture and a hugely comfortable bed. The mini bar to our delight was even complimentary and restocked daily!

Doors closed at 7pm but keys were provided so it's not a problem coming back late.

Breakfast was cold and fairly minimal although freshly cooked eggs ordered to the table were available on request.

There's a lounge area with a small bottle of spirit left out in the evenings.

Points to note if you're staying more than a couple of days: there's no wifi (however there is a PC in reception) and the breakfast is a little repetitive. But these are two really rather minor points.

Thank you for a lovely stay.

This very comfortable B&B in Lucca was a real treat. We arrived by taxi and the kindly driver took our bags up the 2 flights of steps so finding the entrance was made easy for us. Once there it was lovely. We were given the spacious and elegant Madame Butterfly room which include a lounge area and a private terrace as well as the bedroom and large bathroom. Breakfast which was served in a beautifully decorated large room offered a wide selection and the option of cooked eggs. The staff were friendly and helpful which made this a great place to stay. The location was perfect and it was excellent value for money. Highly recommended. Lucca is a beautiful city which is a pleasure to walk around and hiring bicycles to cycle the city walls was an added benefit .

Don't be disheartened when you arrive to a dark locked metal gate leading up a dark stairwell because at the top is a nice little guest house worth staying at! Our room and bathroom were lovely, the breakfast area was decorated so charming, breakfast was also nice. The location was great and the staff were very nice. Would reccommend it for sure!

We recently stayed in this lovely B & B in Lucca and we were sorry we only had one night. We were a bit early checking in but were able to wait in the lovely breakfast room until out room was ready 30 minutes later. Staff including Daniela were so helpful and friendly, and our room so nice with a frecso ceiling and cold bottled water, beer and soft drink free in the little fridge. It was very hot outside, so this was very welcome. Breakfast was above average with a big range of lovely things to eat. Great place right in the central part of Lucca. Would love to come back again soon.

I have to admit that upon arrival I thought "what have I done". We arrived to find a locked gate with a dark staircase that looked quite spooky. Once you get up a couple of flights of stairs you are greeted with a lovely, quaint B&B. Our room was lovely. It is very very clean and the staff are all lovely. Our breakfast was quite nice, eggs cooked as per your request and a coffee of choice. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
