“Fantastic location, wonderful host, excellent value for money. We will return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

We wanted a place to stay to allow to explore a bit of Tuscany. Originally we were looking in Florence and then in Pisa. We then started to look around Lucca and found Casolalare Lucchese. And we are so glad that we did, as we had an amazing time there! Communication was very prompt through the website and the owner with all questions answered whatever they might have been. The price was great for us. Prices quoted for lesser accomodation in Florence and Pisa or in hotels were very expensive. Here we could get a two bedroom apartment for 700 euros a week! At first we thought that was per couple so were so happy when it turned out to be for the apartment itself
When we arrived in Lucca, we made our way by taxi from the train station. One point to note is that taxis are so expensive, do not use them if you can avoid it. With our cases we had little other choice. Upon arrival, we called Lia and she promptly arrived accompanied by her daughter in law Angelica. Lia only speaks a little English but even so I found her to be extremely friendly. Angelica spoke very good English and answered our questions easily. A very nice welcome and made us feel at home instantly. We felt even more sure that we had made a good choice, when we were shown our apartment on the ground floor. A good size kitchen with table. There was a fridge and dishwasher. Two double bedrooms and a good sized bathroom. In the immediate area there was an outside patio with barbeque area - we had a BBQ twice while we were there - and the highlight of the property, the pool. The pictures do not do it justice. A beautiful pool in wonderful landscaped grounds, including a small football pitch The grounds of the property were immaculate and the owners were always tending to something! The other highlight of out trip was the free bike hire. Under the house there are roughly 15 bikes in good working order. Each morning, we went downstairs, picked our favourites and headed in Lucca which was about 10 minutes away. This involved cycling through the Tuscan countryside and was a great experience. Especially since the taxis were expensive but because it was so much fun. We used them all the time and if we could have taken them home we would have done! I know a couple of reviewers have mentioned the 1) proximity of the train and 2) it being a slightly industrial area. Yes, the train runs behind the property a few times a day, however wherever you go in the surrounding area you come across railway crossings and this didn't bother us at all. The area is slightly industrial but taking into account the fact that the building used to be an old farmhouse we kind of expected this.
It was our original intention to hire a car but the ease of getting to Lucca and then the fact that the station had frequent connections with Pisa, Florence and Siena, there was really no need. There is a large Carrefour supermarket very close by (5 minutes drive) which often we rode to, but for a larger family a car might be useful to stock up for the week.
We would not hesitate to recommend Casolare Lucchese to anyone, couples or families. It is well placed to accomodate any group. It is close enough to Lucca and connections to other towns if you want to explore however if you just want a week staying by the pool in the glorious Tuscan sunshine you could do this with ease. We have already decided that we will return one day and surely that is as good a recommendation as you can get. Thank you Lia and Angelica for your warm welcome and for a great holiday!

Room Tip: The ground floor apartment was great but next time we will probably try to get the first floor apart...

We stayed at Casolare Lucchese in July this year. We found the farmhouse on Tripadvisor, and it was perfect for the three of us, a couple of 30 years old and a girl of 1,5 years old. We had a 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor. It was clean and cozy and the kitchen had everything we needed. Lia, the house lady, was nice and helpful, always around to look after the house and the property. The garden was well kept and bigger than a soccer field! And the swimming pool was spacious and clean. Lia has bikes in the basement (we counted at least 10), some with seats for small children. The centre of Lucca is less than a 10 minute bike ride away.

A perfect place for a family vacation.

We took a 3 bedroom apartment in late June at Casorale after coming across it online and reading only positive reviews of it. These reviews are justified as we were very happy with our choice that fitted well with the needs of our 3 year old son. THe apartment itself is clean and the beds comfortable and the air con is a bonus. The living area and kitchen are more basic but acceptable. The grounds are beautifully kept and the pool is exceptional. The welcome from Lia is warm and friendly and she did all she could to help us feel at home despite our mutual language barriers. Breakfast is ok and excellent vfm.

We ate most lunchtimes down the road at La Grainaia restaurant where the food was good and the welcome better. Carrefour is 5 mins by car and you can get all you need there.

We had a lovely time here at a very reasonable price. We would recommend it and would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for 1 week and it was a great place to relax besides the beautyfull pool. Our 2 teenage boys could play some soccer in a very good maintained garden. We took several times some bikes that are available and took a nice, short ride to the centre of Lucca, even to just eat an icecream.
The appartement was clean, the beds very good and with an airco.
It's a perfect spot to make a trip to Lucca, Firenze, Pisa, the Sea or the Mountains.
We will come back for another stay in this area.

My girlfriend and I just stayed here for four nights while enjoying the property, checking out the town in the walls of Lucca, and taking a day trip to the nearby beach towns. We had a wonderful stay and Lia (sp?) made every effort to accommodate us. We spent mornings enjoying simple breakfasts of espresso, milk, breads, and jams, and afternoons laying out by the pool and playing soccer in the enormous field in the yard. This was a terrific value.

Room Tip: One room was small, and one was larger, so it probably doesn't hurt to request a larger room. W...

The hotel, the rooms and the property are very clean and very quiet. The lands, the pool and the landscaping are amazing, and definitely my favorite. There are enough chairs around for some enjoyable time beside a pool, or nice family dinners under the gazebos. We stayed in quadruple room (family with two teenagers). The room was small but very clean. Our friends stayed in the apartment with the kitchen, and the apartments are very clean, very spacious and very affordable. The property has a free parking space, and the affordable car rental is available in Lucca (book it on line, way before your trip, to get the good deals). If you decide not to rent a car, there is a dozen of bicycles (with locks) at this property that would get you to Lucca, easy bike less than 10 minutes. (You should do this at least, just for experience). There is a very convenient French superstore nearby - Carrefour. (5min drive). We have visited Pisa, Florence and many small villages in Tuscany from this villa. This property is very well maintained, good value for the money and it will not disappoint you.

Room Tip: some rooms are overlooking the court yard and some pool, but you spend all of your time outside.
