“very nice place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

Hi I have been there for a week and i felt really welcome. Very nice place, very clean and the owners really nice. I recommend this elegant and charming hotel where you can try the good Italian food and different range of wine. You will remember for ever .

I stay in this hotel ever time I trip in business purpose. It is very nice and silent place. Nice and comfortable rooms. There is also good restaurant next to the hotel so anytime one can have his eating "at the place".

Lucca is a really lovely little town and close enough to other destinations (including Cinque Terre) that this lovely villa could be a great home base for many days of touring.
It's almost magical when you drive up the driveway through the tunnel made of linden trees and emerge at this lovely old home. The oldest part of the villa (shown in the photographs) has been nicely updated and offers those of us who don't have Italian villas a glimpse of "how it used to be." Stately, charming and tasteful. I would recommend a room overlooking the sculpture garden as there is not much to look at on the back side of the house.
Its a little ways out of Lucca and the hotel sign is huge but partially hidden by the trees and you're apt to drive right by (the property doesn't look like much from the road) - but it's worth backtracking to find the property!

Room Tip: Request a garden view room.

We needed to be fairly close to Pisa airport to pick up our daughters, but we also wanted to use our overnight stop to visit some stately homes in the Lucca area. This hotel was perfectly located (if a bit difficult to find originally). The car park was ample and there is a pretty garden filled with sculptures on the way into the hotel building. The receptionist who checked us in should give lessons to all others. He was good humoured and obviously happy in his job. Nothing was too much trouble, and I must say the receptionist we met the next day on checkout was just as kind. We had a large soundproofed room in this renovated villa. It was very comfortable with a great shower room. Breakfast was excellent and we would love to return.

Next to the hotel, same building, different management, is a lovely restaurant which we used twice during our overnight stay. Well recommended.

We were in Lucca for a concert, and hotels were packed; booking only the day before there was little choice, but the Hambros was available.

The property is 7kms out side Lucca, but in a marvellous, if incongruous, setting. The distance to town proved no issue as parking is well available and the drive only about 15 minutes. The hotel is in a fine old building, and the main floor somewhat atmospheric. The rooms are all clean, comfortable and well appointed, though with no special features.

All in all a good one-night stop (and I would stay again for three or four) and very reasonable value for money.

The hotel is about 4 miles from the train station in Lucca. It is at the end of a long, tree lined, driveway. It is an old villa that has been renovated. The villa is very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The room was very large with a seperate toilet room and another shower room. The front desk staff was OUTSTANDING. They gave good advise and always followed up at the end of the day to make sure we had a good time. The breakfast was typical continental with pastries, breads, cereals, yogart, sliced meats and cheeses. I would absolutley stay at Hotel Hambros again. Great value.

I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel over a long weekend to attend the birthday of a friend closeby. It is not easy to find; thank God a great Avis car rental employee at Pisa Airport gave me some excellent instructions. My room located on the third floor of this renovated 'Villa', was spacious with a great shower and a big flat TV screen. It had an excellent air conditioning unit which would switch on automatically when the temperature rose. I questioned why a small light remained switched on at the bathroom and I was advised it was for safety reasons if somebody woke up abruptly; it bothered me mind you as I could see the light from the bottom of the bathroom door into the bedroom when sleeping. The hotel surrounded by gardens with some modern sculpures displayed does not have a restaurant so the staff recommends the local italian trattoria in the adjacent part of the building (I had a meail twice at this restaurant and found it very good). There is a breakfast room with "classroom" type of seating which felt strange. The breakfast buffet included in the price of the room was very good. There is ample parking.
The staff were excellent. They were accommodating, helpfull and made all the guests feel very welcome!
