“Great band B in a beautiful old walled City.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

Lucca is fascinating - full of history, and some great restaurants and bars! La Romea is in the centre and parking is available about half a mile away. However, Giulio and Gaia are really helpful and will park your car for you once you have arrived with your luggage and will help when you leave.
The bedrooms are traditionally furnished and comfortable and a very good and varied breakfast is served in the wonderful dining room.
There are several interesting places to visit locally including Pisa, which was more impressive than we ever thought it might be - wonderful!

Lovely high ceiling rooms in an old building. Lots of charm, and supported by Gaia and Giulio who both have a lovely sense of humor. The location couldn't be more perfect; in the very center of this very old town. We drove to La Romea, and without Gaia's written instructions we would not have made it. The GPS is worthless in a town with lots of one way streets and "ped" only walkways. Gaia offered to drive my car to the parking area, but my male ego insisted on making the trip myself using a town map, No problem. But when we left I asked her to accompany me to the parking garage and provide guidance back to La Romea to pick up our luggage.
La Romea is on the third floor, and there is no lift. I don't recommend the B&B for people who have problems walking.
Highly recommended!

I stayed here for 4 nights in the green room. I have never had such gracious, friendly and helpful hosts in my life. They spent quite a bit of time with me when I arrived showing me where everything was and recommending restaurants etc. They called multiple taxis for me for my excursions and were seriously some of the nicest people I have ever met. As mentioned the breakfast is wonderful. A lot of variety and they will make you eggs anyway you want! They renovated the entire place themselves and the love and care in every detail is evident. I loved it here. Centraly located and easy walking to all attractions in Lucca. I did not have a car so parking wasnt an issue for me. Cute wine bar downstairs too. LOVE LA ROMEA!!!! Also free wi-fi (works best in the comfy lounge) and tv's in the room. And mine also had a mini fridge which was great for keeping snacks etc.

Based on the reviews on TripAdvisor, I was expecting some sort of faded grandeur and palatial surroundings. The reality is far more quirky, and I'm guessing that it is the age of the building which garners such fab reviews rather than anything else. It's about a 15 minute walk from the bus station, through the winding medieval streets of Lucca, not too bad unless you've got heavy cases.

Good points: Very central, delicious breakfasts, lovely host and hostess who were full of helpful hints, vg pizza restaurant just round the corner.

Not-so-good-points - we were in the Yellow room, with an extra bed, and I have to say that the furniture was more junk shop than antique, with a weird mix of old and modern. Also, the outdoor tables for the local pizzeria are directly below the windows, and on Friday night there was a very raucous bunch of people out there until quite late. Gaia (hostess) did apologise in the morning, but would advise taking earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

La Romea is a wonderful place to stay. It is located in the heart of Lucca, inside the walls and an easy walk from any part of the old city and reachable on foot from the train and bus stations. The rooms are spacious (we stayed in the Blue Suite), the breakfast delicious and its hosts, Giulio and Gaia, are terrific ambassadors for their town. I highly recommend it.

La Romea is a lovely bed and breakfast in a central location in Lucca. We stayed for 3 nights in the Ivory Room which was very spacious and comfortable and like the rest of La Romea, characterful. Giulio and Gaia are very welcoming hosts and offered us some great restaurant recommendations and also tipped us off about a Puccini concert which was one of the highlights of the trip. Highly recommended.

We stayed at La Romea in 2007 and booked through the local Tourist centre. Lucca itself is enchanting. Our gracious hosts at the time, Simonetta and Lilly recommended that we cycle (or walk) around the walls, it was a wonderful experience. Breakfast was served in the hall and was delicious. We travelled with another couple and they booked the grand room and were justly impressed with the frescoes painted on the ceiling. We chose a "smaller" room which was beautifully furnished with antiques and the largest room that we stayed in on our entire European trip. We were made to feel so welcome and recall our 2 night stay at this 14th century palazzo with great pleasure.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the "yellow" room.
