“Lovely Country Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Lovely old building, nice grounds, large comfortable room, outstanding breakfast selection, good restaurant. Excellent base for visiting Lucca and the surrounding Tuscan towns and seaside. The staff were friendly and helpful with good English skills.

Room Tip: pick a room facing the garden. But they all seemed nice.

This is a beutiful hotel that has everything. The pool and grounds are great and the rooms are very nice. The breakfast is very nice and we enjoyed it on a very nice patio. The negatives are: 1) service is just OK. The hotel was fully booked and there were only a few wait-persons who worked the moring and evening meals; 2) the restaurant offers an evening menu that is both limited and expensive

Room Tip: I am sure that you can not go wrong.

This is a very beautiful villa, with wonderful interior and absolutely fantastic restaurant!!! Service is perfect. We could not use the pool (had a rainy weather :((( and this is the only hotel in Italy we've been to (we were in 7 hotels during this trip), that had an English-movie channel (it's really difficult to watch only CNN and BBC, but there you have a choice). Great place to stay and return. And, people, restaurant is a must go.

We stayed here for the first 2 nights of our visit to Tuscany-we used Tripmaster to gauge other guests views-this is now a standard practise when looking for good hotels etc.I suppose you could describe the Villa as shabby-chic.-a few stains and chipped paintwork here and there but not off putting in the least. The room was large with lovely bed, great bathroom with large tub and plenty of hot water as well as good products for skin and hair.In room safe and fully stocked fridge was nice-still would like tea/coffee available in room-especially first thing in the morning.Pool area is beautiful -some people braved the cool water and seemed to enjoy that-pool closes mid Sept.American bar was nice to get drinks before and after dinner.Took dinner the first evening in the elegant white dining room-very expensive-but its nice to treat yourselves now and then.Food was first class as was the wine and professional served throughout.
Beakfast is served both inside or out depending on weather permitting.Buffet style with variety to suit all nationalities-US/French/German/Italian and Uk.
Lucca was once a bit of a secret but now is firmly on the Tourist Trail-do not miss this Tuscan Gem-we took in a recital of Music by Motzart and Puccini in a beautiful church behind Place di Napolean -Puccini was born in Lucca and is much celebrated in the town.Just across from the Villa is a Patisserie /Icecream place where we enjoyed the best coffee and cakes etc on our entire stay-the price was very reasonable as it is mainly locals who use it-a great little find.

Room Tip: Our room was 151 and had views of the pool and gardens with the hills behind. It was in the annexe .W...

Just got back last night from a 2 week stay at this amazing Tuscan Villa. We celebrated our 40 and 50 birthdays there with family and friends. It was amazing. The trip had been 1 year in the making and all our expectations were filled and beyond so too. The staff was sweet and extremely helpful and forthcoming! We just really loved it all. Fabric covered walls, beautiful grounds, peaceful surroundings, views that will take your breath away. I am at loss for words. I would come back in a heartbeat! We all already long for the days we spent at this gorgeous villa.

Stunning looking from the outside and nice grounds to walk around. The smallest lifts known to man, intersting sculptures and clearly was once a very impressive place with some original features to see. However the rooms were covered in vulgar stained fabric, showed photos to family when I got back who laughed heartily! Although the place was cleaned well, it was old and tatty and I tried not to touch anything.
There are only 2 outside tables in the bar area and so was actually difficult to sit outside one night. We went to the front of the hotel to the only other tables we knew of at the restaurant tables and the staff were really quite put out that we just wanted to sit outside for 10 minutes, even though it was practically empty and they had stopped serving.
In fact the table service was slow at best, and if you miss lunch by 10 minutes you have the worst ham and cheese sandwhich you would expect from a petrol station. Some didn't speak English at all and never smiled or said Hi when you went for breakfast. The reception staff weren't too bad although I wouldn't stretch to welcoming.
There was a little water feature in the driveway which had a few poor goldfish swimming in dirty unaired water without even a twig to swim around, felt very cruel!
On the plus side its easy to find with plenty of parking and in a good location a few minutes drive from Lucca. Don't think I could recomend it.
