“Stay Here.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

My wife and I visited Lucca during our recent trip to Tuscany, Italy. The hotel had been recommended to us. It did not disappoint. The first advantage that the hotel had was a parking facility . ( Parking can be an issue in Italian 'Old Town's'). The hotel is a family owned property and we noticed the difference straight away. The welcome was friendly and inviting. We were shown to our room in the main building and it was modern with all the conveniences. It was quiet, restful and peaceful. Breakfast was the best we had on our trip. Fresh bread juices, meats cheeses and loads of freshly made coffee and tea.. The hotel is ideally located and just a stone's throw from the Cathedral, Theatre shopping, restaurants etc. The owners have twom other properties adjacent to the main hotel and although we did not visit them I am sure they are of a similar quality to San Martino.
Lucca is a magnificent old walled town and has lots of attractions for tourists including a year round Puccini festival held in Chiesa San Giovanni.
I would have no hesitation in staying here again.
Galway Jay.

We stayed in the separate wing from the main hotel. Its obviously recently renovated...lovely decor. These rooms have double glazed windows with external shutters and internal shutters meaning totally silent, totally dark room...bliss! Close to everything...but everything is close in Lucca. Staff lovely and helpful...wonderful breakfasts....excellent pastries (had to restrain ourselves here), free wifi in the room but no English TV channels.

While traveling, my friends and I needed to find a place to stay in Lucca at the last minute. We lucked upon this hotel and are glad to have found it. It's tucked away in a quiet little square near the south entrance to the city. Staff was very friendly and helpful, including the young lady who led me to the parking lot and guided me through two narrow streets to it. (so if you have a car and want to stay inside the walls of Lucca, this is the place for you.) Room was comfortable. Rate was reasonable. The breakfast was ample, lots of breads, cheeses, meats, pastries, yogurt, granola, etc. They had a nice seating area outside for breakfast or late evening cocktails - which we couldn't use due to the rainy weather, unfortunately. All in all, a nice space. I'd come back.

We stayed here one night. The location is a bit hard to find, but that could be said for much of Lucca. Very friendly and helpful staff. Provided access to a secure parking area inside the city walls. Comfortable room. Reasonable rate. Fine breakfast, especially if you like hard rolls, cheese, and meats.

Great location, walkable from train station in 5-10 minutes. Friendly front staff (especially Alessia) and a first rate breakfast. Competitive rates. Stayed in the main building. Fairly quiet. Only complaint is that I found the bed to be very hard.

This is a quaint bed and breakfast that is in a good location. It is near a beautiful square and it is situated on a very quiet street. Our room was in the annex building which was across the small alley from the main office. I believe the annex building was recently acquired. The room was beautiful and roomy. The bathroom was very clean and had obviously been recently renovated. . The phone in the room was not yet operational. We were, however, able to get wireless internet in the room. There is also a refrigerator within the room which is nice for keeping drinks cold. The breakfast was a typical European breakfast with croissants, cereal, fruit, meats and cheeses. I'm not sure if I would recommend purchasing breakfast with the room . It was a little pricey although nicely presented. The morning of our check out we did have an issue with hot water not being available thus preventing me from taking a shower. This was a small drawback and may be due to the hotel still trying to get the annex building up and running. The other issue that the hotel may want to address is that the rooms are very dark. Additional lighting would be helpful. If you are a senior, you may have issues with reading and seeing in the room at night.
