“A Quiet, Peaceful Hotel in a Beautiful City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2009

We arrived at the hotel when temperatures outside had reached nearly 40 degrees. The reception was cool and calm and the receptionists all spoke excellent English. I was concerend that the first room offered was beside the lift, and they changed it immediately. The rooms were comfortable and quiet and the air conditioning worked well. The breakfast was plentiful with an excellent choice of foods and the hotel provided free snacks, fruit and cold drinks all day up until 7 p.m., even then, tea and coffe were still available free of charge. The hotel had a small terrace with sunbeds and a jacuzzi, which was very nice to relax in. Overall, I would say that this hotel was excellent and its website doesn't really do it justice. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet, peaceful hotel in a beautiful city (Lucca).

We cannot prasie this hotel highly enough. From the minute you walk into the airconditioned reception it is like you are a long lost friend! The staff cannot do enough for you, the breakfast is plentiful and delicious. The rooms are clean, airconditioned(which is fantastic when the outside temp is 33degrees in the shade)and comfortable. The added bonus is the free snacks, cold drinks and coffee which are avaviable until 7 in the evening, after that you can have coffee or tea for free all night. The jacuzzi is wonderfully relaxing, if you feel energetic you can have a bike to ride around the lovley city of lucca. All in all this is a tranquil haven within the city walls, peaceful and quiet. One last thing on the day of our departure they even provided breakfast for us, even though it was 4am! 5stars for everything.Would gladly return to this hotel.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in June 2009 based on tripadvisor reviews.

The reviews were right - this is a great hotel!!!!!!

The hotel is within the city walls of Lucca - it was easy to find.

The rooms are large, modern, well kept with a great bathroom.

Breakfast provided was great - large range served on the first floor patio.

Staff were attentive, friendly and really helpful!!

Highly recommend this hotel if you travel to Lucca!!!!

A very nice hotel conveniently located within the city walls. Rooms were clean and well maintained although lacked a little character. Staff were excellent - friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was about the best we had in Italy and served on a terrace that was a wonderful way to start the day. Free wireless internet and complimentary snacks during the day were an added bonus. I would highly recommend this hotel

I stayed at the Hotel Ilaria for six nights at the end of July. From the moment I arrived and was greeted by Fabrizio, I knew I had chosen the right hotel. I have seldom ever seen such a friendly staff at every level. They speak perfect English, but if you want to brush up on your Italian, they will help.

Pretty much everything about the hotel is free except for the room. If you bring a car, you park it free (unbelievable in Lucca). The sumptuous breakfast is free, as is use of bicycles. There is a lovely terrace with chaise lounges on the first level.

The room was spotless, with a view overlooking the gardens. It was very hot in Lucca (well over 90) so I was always delighted to get back to my perfectly air conditioned room. The bathroom is new, ample and very clean. My only quibbles were that the mattress was too hard and there wasn't quite enough space to store clothing. But that was amply made up for by everything else about this very special hotel.

We stayed at the Ilaria for three nights at the end of a two-week touring holiday to Tuscany.
The directions to the hotel were much simpler than our other previous stop-overs and we found the Ilaria at the first attempt. We had intended to park on Via del Fosso which runs along the front of the Ilaria, however we were quickly advised against this by a member of staff who spotted us attempting to park, who explained that the traffic wardens were extremely vigilant in Lucca. We were guided into the free, large under-cover parking area, where we left our car for the remainder of the holiday.
The Ilaria lobby was welcoming and check-in to our first floor standard room was smooth. The room was of a good size and comfortable, and the view from the window looked over the street below. The bathroom was spotless. The breakfast spread was superb and the setting of the breakfast room was delightful, opening out onto a lovely terrace area.
Lucca itself is a medium-sized town with a very local feel and plenty of sites to keep us occupied for a couple of days. Slightly off the tourist trail it was certainly not as busy as Siena. In fact, once the numerous tour groups from the cruise liners had returned to their ships, the town was blissfully peaceful.
A walk around the ancient walls is a must, there are plenty of churches and a beautiful cathedral to visit, an odd-looking tower to climb with wonderful views at the top, and Pisa is a bus-ride away.
Evenings were spent in the stunning amphitheatre with its pavement cafes for and we dined in the wonderful Baralla restaurant just behind the amphitheatre.
We would readily return to Lucca and the Ilaria Hotel.

We picked Hotel Ilaria based on reviews we read here. Since we were just doing one night in Lucca we only needed a place to park and sleep. However, at 150 eur/night it was a bit overpriced as it felt like a Holiday Inn.

The location is certainly nice. It's a few minute walk to the main piazza. Parking is right in front of the hotel. We gave our keys to the reception upon check in and when we left an hour later we noticed the car was unlocked so we asked if they could lock it and they said they would. When we arrived home at midnight the doors were still unlocked and remained that way until we drove out of the parking lot the next day.

There were various noises all night between the a/c, the water pipes clanging, and a loud drip noise from the room above. We were awoken a few times each night and neither of us are light sleepers.

When we checked in we were shown a room with two beds despite confirming it was a queen upon check in. We asked to move and they said they'd just push the beds together and remake it while we were out. We were gone for about 5 hours but they waited till we got back so we could watch them make it "queen" bed.

Housekeeping was minimal. We asked for a converter when we checked in. Reception said he would have to look for it and would bring it up when he had it. Never heard from him. Called the next day and was asked to come down to get it. It wasn't the right adapter.

Night reception was gone when we came back at midnight - so no hotel workers were around to give us our key. Waited 15 mins for him to come back. At least he was apologetic about being gone.

The breakfast included in the room rate was OK, typical spread of fruits, sliced meat, juice, coffee, etc. And the free pastries, fruits, and drinks during the day are a nice bonus.

That being said, had we been staying any longer than one night we would have changed hotels but it wasn't worth the effort.
