We spent a day exploring Lucca and decided to have dinner there, before returning to Florence by train.
We ended up at the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, which was once a Roman amphitheatre.
The area has a mix of shops, restaurants and what seem to be residential apartments, as well. The shops close very early and the area seemed deserted.
It was a very mild night and we chose to eat outside at Da Gherado, which offered a small but interesting menu. There are tables inside on 2 levels and the outdoor area.
We had 3 main courses, which were cinghiale (wild boar), raviolotti di zucca (pumpkin raviolotti, chef’s special) and steak. We also had a side serve of chips, a bottle of Chianti Classico, beer and mineral water. Cover charge was 1 Euro per person (bread and grissini) and the bill was 66 Euros for 3 people.
Our meals were freshly cooked and very nice. We also enjoyed our surroundings.
