Is the total distance one runs or bikes around the historical center. By bike, one can drive down the wall and visit the church or the monument one can spot from the wall, it is a must!
the city walls of lucca are really a wonder in italy ! you get a nice round by bicycle or better by walking and enjoying the beaty of lucca !
It was so nice to ride a bike over the wall. The city is small, so is the route over it. It's a different way to visit places. Besides, it gives you a fresh air and great view of the surrounded area. Beautiful.
The walls are about 2.5 miles around the historic section of Lucca - and make for such a wonderful walk. I walked the walls every day that I was there - walking, stopping to read or to take pictures, enjoying the garden show on the walls. It was so peaceful and relaxing. I highly recommend the walls for a totally relaxing experience.

You did need to be attentive while biking around the walls as the area attracts many walkers, strollers and other cyclists. The condition of the walls is quite magnificent and they are so old!
