We booked Principe Calaf (the actual hotel), but as we were touring through Italy our itinerary has changed and we arrived to Lucca earlier then planed. Principe Calaf was full for that night, but Maria (the landlady) was extremely helpful and offered us an apartment just outside of Lucca, I was conscious at the beginning, but the apartment was in a very nice and quite location less then 10 minutes away from Principe Calaf, furnished to a good standard and everything looked very new. Also as it was with the kitchen and had a sofa bed in the living room - ended up to be a better option for us as we travel with a small child.
Maria next day offered to move back into the hotel if we want to, but we were very pleased with the apartment and stayed there all 3 nights.
Also, as Maria offered us to use a hotel parking so we didn't have any problems parking near the Lucca gates or main entrances into the city,
Hope this helps.
