“We liked it a lot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

The B&B where we stayed suggested this restaurant..we arrived In late November with a list of restaurants to try, not realizing that many close for the winter starting in Nov. it was very, very good. Cute and modern and brightly lit. My husband and I shared a big fresh salad with tuna, he had goose beast which he loved and I had just a vegetable plate...spinach and roasted potatoes. Staff were very, very pleasant. Would definitely return.

“Courtyard is ace.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

You enter an attractive, modern restaurant but as you look through to the rear you realise the best is yet to come for the Ammodonostro's trump card is its delightful rear courtyard garden where it was even warm enough to sit out during our visit in late October. This goes some way to explaining how this restaurant has made it into the top ten for in other respects we found the place was only really average. Certainly when we visited there was nothing you could call atmosphere despite the advantage of its setting and I put this down to the waiting staff who created nothing and merely put plates on tables. That isn't service and I refuse to reward it. A good waiter creates atmosphere but there was none of that here. The menu was interesting, the food was good but not excellent. When you run a restaurant in a small town with another 240 other restaurants I'm guessing it may be dangerous to take your eye of the ball.

“Enjoyable meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

This restaurant was recommended by a local shop keeper. We were in town for only the day so wanted to eat early, but they didn't open until 7:30. We hung around and weren't disappointed. Nice atmosphere, good food, good wine. We were the first ones in the place so service was ok, but I can understand some of the comments of it being slow and understaffed.

“Enjoyable Nights”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We saw this restaurant while looking for another recommended one. We decided on Ammodonostro as the other was still closed at 7.20pm on a Friday night.
Fortunately, we were among the early birds and had the choice of tables. We chose outside in the lovely garden which was enhanced with discrete lighting and soft music.
The service was friendly, the atmosphere conducive to conversation, the food excellent and not expensive. There was a good choice of wine, including a house wine.
My husband had a beef dish and I had sea bass. They were delicious and we were given time between courses.
We enjoyed this place so much we returned on our second night in Lucca. We again arrived early and chose a garden table.
This time I ordered the cheese plate and found it expensive at 10euros for 6 small slices of cheese with nothing else.
We would go back if we are ever in Lucca again but I probably wouldn't order the cheese plate.
If you intend to arrive after 8pm, I would suggest booking a table.

“Good to be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

Back in Lucca we tried Ammodonostro again (3 times). Nothing to change our first opinion: nice afmosphere, delicious food, value for money (as you know an important assessmentfactor for the Dutch..). So nothing else to do but highly recommend this place. Ammodonostro is still among our Lucca-Top3.
