“We love Villa Cheli”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Villa Cheli was the venue for our wedding 19-22nd June 2014 - we had visited and stayed at the hotel several times the previous year, first to just 'try' the hotel, then to taste the menu and wine lists etc - it became a kind of any excuse to visit.. We fell in love with fell Villa Cheli the very first day we visited, the long impressive Cedar lined drive up to the hotel could have come straight out of Gladiator or the GodFather movies and the hotel itself which has not been over developed over years, keeps much original decor and features both of which we love. The ambience of the place is quiet and chilled and the pool for setting and atmosphere and is as good as any we have seen anywhere in the world. We took over the villa for the full weekend of the wedding - the staff were all absolutely superb, welcoming and accommodating, they made sure everyone was looked after - even when England were playing in the world cup late on the first night - nothing was too much trouble. The food was a major talking point throughout the weekend (more than the football) - the menu is traditional Tuscan fair and is extremely well put together by the chef and his team and whilst maybe being a tad expensive compared to resturants in Lucca I'd recommend you eat in the hotel. The service despite providing complex dishes to a group of over 50 people never dropped once over two days, we had a wedding BBQ on the first night which was just superb. I know hand on heart we will stay at Villa Cheli again and again over the years - infact if we could get on flight now I know we would. Thank you so much.

We stayed from 19 - 22 June for a family wedding and took over the whole villa! Absolutely magical! It was like a fairy tale from start to finish! Friendly, helpful staff. Beautiful rooms, grounds and food! The pool was a real bonus. Don't forget your cossie if you go! And I recommend you do!

Room Tip: All seemed good to me. Back rooms get the evening sun but air con in all rooms

Dear SallyandDanny,
thanks a lot for your words and really sorry for the delay in answering you.. but during summer is almost impossible for us to manage all the things to do. But words are very important nowadays.. especially if the word is THANKS. We always try to give the best to our guests and we are very pleased to have reached this goal with you.
See you soon!

We stayed at Hotel Villa Cheli for 3 nights in May 2014. Our main reason for choosing this Villa was the good reviews here, the price and its close proximity to both Lucca and to Pisa, especially for the flight home on the final morning. It was around 10 minutes or so into Lucca and 25 minutes maximum to Pisa centre and the airport by car. A car is definitely recommended here. I did keep my eyes open for the local bus whilst out and about but I never spotted it once so it is obviously infrequent.

I had the pleasure of tasting my best meal yet while on our Tuscany holiday in the restaurant here. I believe the cost of the meal was around 10 Euro's each which was fairly reasonable for such nice food. On our next night in the restaurant it was a fixed price menu of 22 Euro's which included a bottle of the house wine. If you didn't want to indulge in this large fixed menu there were a couple of other choices at cheaper prices. We elected to try the fixed menu and it was huge when it all came out, one being big enough to feed 2 people. No complaints at all with the food, it was all of a very high standard.

The young lady receptionist was very nice, very helpful and seemed to be involved in everything and able to speak many languages. The waitresses were nice too despite looking overworked especially when there was a wedding party going on.

Our room was very comfortable and a good size, overlooking the front of the building. It was starting to warm up while we there and we had to ask for the air-con to be switched on but this was performed fairly quickly.

The pool at the back was on the 1st floor level with the large hill going up behind you. I suspect when it gets really hot you may well find a nice cooling breeze coming down across the hill. There were patio seating areas at both the front and back of the building if you wanted to sit and while away your time.

At the bottom of the long driveway you can find a lovely bar/cafe/pasticceria/gelateria place called 'La Perla' which is just excellent. I think it may have been a newsagent too as they seemed to sell lots of different things. We both enjoyed popping across there and sitting outside for an ice cream and a coffee. They had a huge range of cakes which just had to be sampled and the prices were very reasonable and the staff nice. We both found it very welcoming and looked forward to our daily 'treat'. We chose to have breakfast here on our final day as we had to leave early for the airport and could not wait around for Villa Cheli to start their service.

We both loved Tuscany so much that we have decided to return next year and I strongly suspect we will choose Hotel Villa Cheli again for our final destination before the flight home. There was little to fault here.

Recommended.

What a wonderful place to stay, after a very busy 4 days in Florence, and motoGP, we needed a relaxing place to stay and unwind.
Peaceful, beautiful , and wow.
We stayed in a attic room, tiny window with a fabulous view, therefore came out of room in the evening to enjoy a drink. Low beams which add character, but may be a issue if tall, have to be careful.
The location and pool is fantastic. The only downside is we didn't have a car, so if you go ,I would recommend transport, as too far to walk into Luca. we managed with the bus at the end of the drive, not always reliable although we didn't have to pay! Not sure why not, we always asked the driver. (Bus into town and taxi to return as doesn't always come out past the hotel and times may vary to the time table)
taxis cost 13-19 euros each way into Luca.
Taxis at the train and bus station.
The restaurant food is excellent, the beef and sea bass are well worth it, and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
I would defiantly return.

Dear Cath M,
thanks a lot for your review! We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay here.. unfortunately buses, especially on Sundays, are not very frequent, it is true, we have tried several times to urge the transport company.. we hope something will change in the future! However we hope to have left a good memory of your holidays!
Kind regards

Stayed for 3 nights as part of a large wedding party. The hotel was amazing and the day of the wedding the food was unbelievable, the main course of steak was one of the best I have ever had. We ate breakfast every day and this was also good with a wide range of pastries and meat. The bar was also good and reasonably priced and the hotel staff were excellent throughout our stay.

I dedided to spend my easter vacation togehter with my miss in this complex and our choice has been perfect!
It's about 5 km from Lucca city center and about 12 km from Pisa. Perfect location!
e decided to take an apartment to be more free and they gave us a 1 bedroom flat with fully furnished kitchen. It 's been pretty easy to prepare breafst and dinner.
If you don't like to cook, you can decide to have breakfast in the restaurant or dineer as well, cause inside villa you can find a nice restaurant ( i didn't see he menu, but i'm sure it might be awsome).
The girl at the reception was super nice with us and she explanied us everything we should know.
Last but not east, this place is an amazing ancient villa; the entrance is amazing and you can breath the real italian old times style!
Do me a favour!! Go For IT !!!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hello everybody! I am the owner of Hotel Ristorante Villa Cheli and my name is Vincent. Today I decided to write a review to tell a little bit of our house .. Villa Cheli is a colonial villa built in 1700 , formerly owned by the family Cheli . The last owner was a sculptor , a sculptor of chalk. During the restoration , in fact , we found some of his works in the attic .. And we thought .. Why not share it with our guests ? Coming to visit us in fact you can admire them within the walls (internal and external ) of the Villa .. A bit ' as we were in a museum. The hotel rooms are located on three floors .. The first floor, the main floor of the Villa, are situated the suite and two rooms overlooking the balcony .. The second floor rooms with large windows and high ceilings on the third floor .. Instead there are the most romantic rooms with sloping roof with exposed beams and small skylights in the ceiling. On the ground floor, in addition to the reception, we have our own restaurant, open for the summer season , from March to November , that in addition to the typical dishes of Italian cuisine in general , it also offers some taste of the Tuscan tradition and Lucca. And for relaxation ? Do not miss our pool and our wellness area! All the staff and me we will be happy to welcome you in the warmest way possible and help you with all your needs ... more   less
