“Lovely hotel, nice people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We stayed there for one week with our two children (2 and 4 years old). Very nice people made us feel welcome. They helped us with the children, uncomplicated and flexible. The rooms are styled authentically and they are clean. The hotel is perfectly located if you have a car, because it is close to Lucca and you can easily make trips to Pisa etc. But in the direct surrounding of the hotel you cannot do a lot, it is even hard to make a short walk because there are no paths/ways to walk. The breakfast is ok given that in Italy breakfast is generally not celebrated extensively. The food in the restaurant is excellent (opens for dinner only). We can really recommend Villa Cheli.

“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

We've just returned after spending 3 nights at villa cheli. The hotel itself is lovely and our room was spotlessly clean. The room itself was quite big however the bathroom and shower cubicle were very small. A bonus was having a fridge in the room which was great for drinks in the 32 degree days. I was a little put off by the noisy busy road when we first arrived as I had wanted a tranquil countryside relaxing few days. The road is about 500 yards down the nice long driveway however the traffic never stops!! Even after 10pm it was still very noisy and busy from our room at the top of the hotel. However - at the back of the hotel the pool area is walled and I couldn't hear the road at all so I was happy again. The pool area is very nice and the pool itself is quite big.

Breakfast was the usual continental - cereals, bread with a toaster and jams, honey etc. there were also croissants, ham, cheese, pain au chocolat, juice, coffee etc. we only ever ate outside in the lovely forecourt area so I don't know what indoors was like. The restaurant in the evenings was okay although we only ate their once and we were still full from lunch in pisa.

Pisa is around 10-15 mins drive away. Lucca is about 10 mins and was a much nicer place to visit than Pisa, don't miss it. Florence was around 50 mins drive away. There was a bus stop outside the hotel but I'm not sure about times etc. one down side was having nowhere to go for a walk. The hotel was surrounded by private land and there was no real footpath along the very busy road so we had the drive everywhere.

Overall a lovely clean, quiet hotel perfect for our 3 day Tuscany visit.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the third floor if possible as they had only skylights

“lovely location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Had a charming Tuscany experience in Vila Cheli, which has a magnificent view. It is a lovely location, perfect for resting and visiting Pisa, Lucca, Sienna and the sorrounding tuscan landscape. Nice furnished rooms, friendly staff, only decent breakfast. Nice dinner on a lovely terrace in the evening (they have their own garden with tasty vegetables), very romantic atmosphere. Magnificent view from the pool. The property has it's own dog and cats, very friendly. It is really a great place to relax and enjoy life. I would go back some day.

“Fantastic food in a decent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Villa Cheli is a really friendly hotel, well placed for seeing the sights of Lucca. All of the hotel staff were incredibly friendly and took a great deal of time and trouble to really look after us. The communal areas have an air of shabby chic but are a great place to relax with friends in the evening over a glass of wine. Our triple room was on the top floor and clean but quite basic. It only had a velux window in the roof, the lack of windows with views did make our room feel a little bleak. The aircondtioning unit was positioned very close to the single bed and was noisy, not ideal. The pool area was excellent, beautifuly clean and plenty of space. The highlight of our stay was the incredible evening meal served on the terrace. (Book ahead to be sure of an outside table). The set menu is the best bet, 4 excellent course for 25 Euros. The very reasonably priced local red wine Montecarlo Rossi was delicious. Breakfast was dissappointing, just a fairly poor quality buffet.

“Great place to stay in winter”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

Stayed en route to flying back to the UK. The accommodation we stayed in was very clean and the shower room was excellent but for the 300 euros we paid for a basic room for two adults a nine year old daughter could have probably bought the lot. The air conditioning was non existant in our chamber and being an attic room really made for a bad night sleep. The first night we where unable to eat in the villa resturant but old man vincenta made an excellent reccomendation to his friends place 200m down the road. The breakfast was basic to say the least but the terrace was an enjoyable place to start you day. Saying that the swimming pool was lovely. The staff where very authentic and polite. Free wi-fi a nice touch.

Room Tip: Dont go for any on 3rd floor.
