Description: Antica Locanda Di Sesto is a restaurant located on the right side of the Serchio River,in the outskirts of Lucca. The Building dates back to the 1368, as the marble stone in front of the restaurant says, a period when the local merchants started to build their own country estates, used to relax and chill out in the summer but also to gain business profits. From the XIV Century the village of Sesto was property of the "De Nobili" Family and they had, according to various rumors, 101 farmers working only for them in the village. It is thanks to this powerful family that the "Locanda" was built, and even now you can see the remains of the old building inside the restaurant. *We now offer a free shuttle service from Lucca town centre*

“Family-owned, wonderful, and charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

Our favorite restaurant in Lucca. The family is so warm, so welcoming, so professional. Of course, the food is home-made and delicious. The restaurant itself is delightful...sophisticated country. A complimentary Prosecco starts the meal. Then lovely choices of appetizers and primi piatti. For meat-lovers, you cannot find a better place. Truly. Vegetarians will be quite satisfied with the pasta and soup selections. Then one of the best cakes ever: fig, apple, pineapple, whatever is current in the market. Finish with coffee and complimentary biscotti and chocolate. A bonus is that the customers are mostly Italian families with adorable children, and sometimes a well-behaved dog. We always take our chocolate Lab, Emma, with us. She is welcomed heartily.

“One of the better dining experiences of 50+ meals in the Lucca area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

We went for Lunch with 2 small kids and they were very accommodating. The food was very good and we especially liked the Goose and fried veges. The house wine, which is their own produce, was excellent and we bought 2 bottle to take home at very reasonable prices.

The food here is very authentic but extra effort is applied in the preparation and delivery with freshly made dishes and with quality ingredients. Care is taken in the delivery. The service is spot on and the place has a nice friendly feel which sets it apart from most other Luccese eateries.

You pay a little more than the places in the City of Lucca but we were happy with our experience. This is a very professional outfit and they have this place running extremely well. Nice job !

“Alright”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

I would give this 3 and a half if I could. Food was very rich and oily and all of us thought too salty. Very, very slow service and it took an age for them to even bring drinks when the place was quite empty. We felt like we were imposing if we asked for anything! We found the place quite strange but I can see why some people would like it. If you are looking for a family run and authentic place to eat you will love it but don't believe the hype.

Dear User,

Thanks for your review.
Unfortunately your review is a bit too general to let me recognize or remember your visit so forgive me if i can't reply properly at your "downsides".

As said when you describe our food to be too rich, oily and salty,i don't think that's something you can put on all the dished you had, must have been something in particular right ? could you please specify which one you didn't like ? Our food is traditional "Cucina Lucchese",maybe you just didn't like this then...

What do you mean when you say that you find our place "Strange" ?

As for the wait in your "Drinks",you must have chosen something out of ordinary to justify the wait, because we immediately bring a glass of prosecco once our clients sits down, followed by water and if ordered, wine.

Of course if you ask,for example, for cocktails, you will have to wait a little bit more.

Hope to hear back from you.
Best Regards,
Lamberto Barattini

“Blown away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

I have nothing but praise for this resturant as it was an amazing experience from start to finish!

I am very particular about food and resturants and am so glad I had the pleasure to dine her with my group.
Great service, friendly knowledgable staff and owners.
Fabulous menu, something special for everyone!

The resturant made wine is just fabulous as is the family made olive oil!

Smoked goose is really an amazing dish as well as beef fillet!

Price wise the resturant is spectaular value for money (4 people, 3 courses each and wine and water 180 Euro)

I really cannot recommend this enough, it is slightly out of the way but oh so worth it... please doyourselves a favour and make the effort to go here.
