This was hard to find.. we got lost, but it was worth it. The hotel is just a 5 minute walk to the Old Wall which is the reason people come to Lucca. The Old Wall surrounds the Old City and is well worth a visit. It has some amazing buildings.
The hotel itself was very charming with old world decor. The owner runs the place and is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful as is his sister who also works there. It's a nice family style atmosphere. Breakfast was adequate and good. It was a typical Italian breakfast which is very big on sweets... but there was yogurt and cereal available as well as fruit.
We highly recommend staying there if visiting Lucca.

We had 2 nights in the lovely city of Lucca and enjoyed our stay in this small family run hotel. It was clean, quiet and comfortable and had a nice terrace to sit out. It was about 15-20 min walk from the train station, a little longer through the town to the bus station. And a short 10 mins to the port Elisa gate. We borrowed bikes for the day which we thoroughly enjoyed cycling the walls, and it was nice to get a cool breeze as it was hot. We enjoyed our stay very much, so much nicer to stay in a family run place than a large soul-less establishment. I'd stay here again and can recommend it. Particularly good if in a car as there was a good size car park at the rear.

Room Tip: Back rooms are away from the road, although it's not a busy road.

This hotel is amazing. The owners are a single family who do everything, from checking you in to cleaning the rooms. They are friendly, warm, hospitable and very accomodating. I loved staying with them, and was sad to have to be on my way. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a comfortable, friendly place to stay. It is just a short walk to the old walled city of Lucca. The price of this hotel is very reasonable by any standards. I would go there again any time. Thank you to my friends there. Room Tip: Cannot recommend one room over another. The two I saw were very comfortable.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights whilst on a cycling holiday travelling through Tuscany. It is not luxurious and the breakfasts are very basic. However the service and kindness provided by the family who own the hotel is beyond the call of duty and more than makes up for the lack of luxury! Our suitcases had been taken to our rooms when we arrived, the outside area for drinking (very reasonable) was ideal and the family were very helpful in recommending bakers and restaurants etc. We had a problem with one of our bikes and it was Giovanni (the son) who spent a whole morning sorting out the problem and taking the bike to a friends garage in his car. I am sure he had more important things to do but he did it with such politeness and kindness, and used the phone numerous times on our behalf to sort it out. So thanks a lot to all the family here in this small friendly hotel, we would come back for all the reasons above!!

My husband and I recently spent another 4 nights in this lovely little B&B hotel, only a few minutes walk from Porta Elisa (the nearest city gate) in Lucca. We were welcomed back like old friends. It is the cleanest hotel we have ever stayed in: the bed linen and towels are changed every other day, and if you happen to leave a wet towel on the rail, it is replaced the same day. Most of the work is done by this lovely Italian family of four. Giovanni (son) speaks good english if your Italian isn't brilliant, but is happy to let you speak Italian if you wish.
An excellent breakfast is served on the first floor terrace, weather permitting and the warm croissants are the best we've ever encountered. There's a comfortable guest lounge and in the lobby are some beautiful books about Lucca, places to visit and Giacomo Puccini, who was born there.
The bedrooms have TV and telephone and are immaculate. At the back, there's a shaded carpark. The family will lend you bikes free of charge, for getting round the city, which is partly pedestrianised, or for riding on the superbly preserved city walls. Restaurant advice is accurate; Trattoria da Sergio being our favourite.
Lucca is conveniently placed for trips to Florence, the seaside or the stunning Apuan Alps.
We will definitely stay here again if we return to Lucca in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, on 1st or 2nd floor.

We stayed here with my mother in May 2011 and have nothing but beautiful memories of Marino, his son Giovanni, and the gorgeous city of Lucca. I like to walk, and I found the short 10-minute stroll to the city walls to be a perfect distance. With the on-site parking for our rental car, it turned out to be the optimal location for us. I would say that the rooms are average for Italy, which is fine because we spent most of our time either in Lucca itself, out in the hotel's patio area, or talking to Marino (whose English is limited, but my mother speaks fluent Italian and I speak limited Italian) or Giovanni, who speaks English. Those two were the kindest, most accommodating hotel owners I have ever experienced. The best example I can give is that on the day we left, we told Giovanni that we were looking to find my grandparents' birth certificates, and that we'd had a problem finding them at the Lucchese office, where the people had told us to go to Santa Croce instead. Giovanni then took it upon himself to call the people at Santa Croce and tell them of our plight, make sure they'd be available when we arrived, and map out the directions for us so that we could find the place before it closed. And sure enough, when we got to Santa Croce, they had the birth certificates all ready for us! It was like a miracle! We will forever be indebted to Giovanni for his lengthy and successful efforts on our behalf.

I do have to add just one note about air conditioning, because my traveling companion has severe asthma and cannot breathe in rooms that are stuffy and/or hot. So I am very sensitive to the issue of air conditioning, and I add this only for others who may be so as well. Although the room was air conditioned during the day, it appeared that the A/C was turned off every night at 1 a.m. and it got quite hot and stuffy, so we had to open the windows and thus hear the fairly loud traffic noise outside. Our earplugs, however, took care of that problem, and we were able to sleep soundly.

All in all, this hotel was one of the highlights of our trip. My mother keeps talking about how she wants to go back and live for a month there! Highly recommended.
