My wife and I stayed at Poggio al Sole in April 2012.
I have thought long and hard about this, but I simply cannot make even one negative comment about this place. Everything about it is absolutely perfect. We had a double room in the little stone cottage. For most of our week or so there we had the place to ourselves. Peace, quiet, beautiful location, considerate, civilised, educated hosts, excellent breakfasts.
This is the place for the perfect Tuscan holiday.
The only small negative I can find is that you really must have your own transport, without your own car it can be quite difficult to get into the village (Fiesole) or to all except one of the local trattorias. I cannot recommend driving in this region for anybody who is accustomed to driving on the left hand side of the road.
This minor criticism is not any reflection on the excellence of Giovanni's accomodation:-
It doesn't get any better than this.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Poggio al Sole lies in the midst of the magnificent scenario of the Florentine hillsides, and leans over the gentle slopes of the Mugnone valley. It rests on a 450 m hill, 6 kilometers from Fiesole in a neighbourhood called Torre di Buiano, only 8 kilometres from Florence. This viewpoint surrounded by olive groves, cypress trees and fruit trees is named after the sunny position it offers from sunrise to sunset, in summer and winter as well. ... more less
