“Excellent! A gluten-free menu triumph”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

What a wonderful place! We visited here three times in our five day trip and had a welcoming, efficient service and memorable visit very time. The staff are hard-working and proud of their restaurant. On our last visit, for my husband's birthday and our last evening in Florence, we decided to sit inside. We enjoyed the cosy and lively ambience. The gluten -free food was superb! The lasagne was to die for. The pizza was amazing! It was such a treat to have a rustic, home-made selection of bread delivered to the table so that I could enjoy the olive oil and balsamic vinegar (something I have always missed out on and felt quite sorry for myself about). The banana and caramel cheesecake was divine and wasn't the only choice on the menu. Goodbye fruit salad! I so wish this restaurant was in my home city. I would be their best customer. And now to diet...

“Great gluten free food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013 via mobile

We have just had another wonderful lunch with the Ciro family. Gluten free carbonara. Gluten free garlic bread gluten free affogarta fresh salad good house wine wonderful service. Our favourite place in Firenze. Gluten free pizza is ordered a day ahead because they make real bases that take time. Fabulous.

“So dissappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

My husband needs to avoid gluten so we had high hopes of enjoying gluten free food at Ciro and Sons. The reviews seemed quite good so we hoped for the best. Unfortunately this turned out to be the worst eating experience experience and the highest dinner tab of our time in Florence. After finding out we needed to call 24 hours in advance to order gluten free pizza, my husband ordered the spaghetti and lobster entree at the irritable waiter's recommendation. The noodles were severely undercooked. We never had a chance to report this since the waiter never came back. We ultimately told him as we asked for the bill and he got pretty nasty about it, suggesting that it was "al dente" and everyone else preferred that. Somehow the bill came to 92 american dollars, far more than our other dinners in Florence. Never again.

“Excellent restaurant - don't let back street position put you off!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

We (2 couples, 40’s) went to this restaurant partly because of the Tripadvisor rating and also because we were promised free shots of Limoncello when we enquired about booking the previous evening!

We were served by Guiseppe (a Ciro son), who was, according to the wives, “very nice”. When we asked him about the Limoncello offer we mentioned that Sambuca was actually one of our favourite tipples and he immediately brought 4 good sized shots out.

We chose a range of dishes, from lobster pasta to a pork main course dish and all were beautifully cooked and presented.

What we also liked about the place was that there was a TV near us showing the chefs preparing some of the dishes on the menu, which was entertaining as well as confirming that they certainly knew what they were doing.

Don’t be put off by the location, which is a bit of a back street – this is well worth finding and trying.

“Great all-round dining experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Although Ciro & Sons doesn't look especially spectacular from the outside, our meal here was probably our favourite during our stay in Florence.

The steak florentine was really well cooked (ensure you state the weight of the steak you want!), and the spinach and roast potato sides were very good accompaniments.

Our waiter was very helpful, had a good sense of humour and spoke very good English, which all helped us to feel very comfortable.

As I eluded to above, if you don't state the weight of steak you'd like (1.2kg minimum between two) they may give you something slightly heavier. We worked out ours was around 1.4kg with the price we paid, but it was so good that we didn't mind paying slightly more than we'd expected and probably could have eaten even more!
