“Typical trattoria”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

In a typical "trattoria" setting, somewhat crammed, Mamma Gina provides decent quality tuscan dishes like osso buco, gnocchi ... Unfortunately my dish, although quite tasty was hardly warm.
Apparently it is attracting many tourists and it's interesting to notice the difference in appreciation among the reviewers. The service is professional, perhaps slightly nonchalant.
However, it's worth a visit compared to other trattorias in this highly touristic town.
Even as a frequent traveller to Italy, I still can't appreciate the "cover charge" which has long disappeared in most countries. In southern Italy it's usually around 2€ and in Tuscany can be 8€ per person.

“Fabulous Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Best food I tasted in Florence. Got the veal, My son got a steak, and my wife her pasta. The waiter was right when I asked what was their best offering. He answered ..."open the menu, close your eyes and point your finger to anything in the menu". Truly good tasty meal. All of us were very satisfied. Would have gone back the following day if we were not scheduled to leave.
A must in Florence if you go. Price is also right....Enjoy!!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013 via mobile

We were advised by hotel to go here. The staff spoke littke english but were still extreemly helpful and we could work out most of the menu. I had smoked makeral starter and wild boar ragu for mains. It was the most delicious meal i had in florence.

“Best steak dinner in Italy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

On the recommendation of friends, we went to Trattoria Mamma Gina on the Borgo San Jacopo
in Florence, Italy (walk over the Ponte Vecchio and take a right).
The place is unpretentious but the food is really good, and so is the service. We had a memorable Steak dinner, in a country not really known for beef dishes. The Bistecca alla Fiorentina was on the bone, thick, juicy and well seasoned. I ordered mine medium which came more medium-rare, but it was so flavorful that I did not send it back and relished the whole thing! We had spinach on the side, and a salad of arugula with shaved Parmesan iin good olive oil. And the house wine was good too. Tutto era buono!

“Great lunch spot”

Soups and great service. Great place to stop from pitti palace / boboli gardens before heading back to the central city. Great friendly service.
