Perchè no!... is an institution in Florence, and a great one! While Vivoli may have been around a bit longer, and is now trading a bit on its reputation I think, this one continues to offer a superb product in wonderful flavors. Gelaterie all over the country offer "malaga" (rum raisin), but I tasted it here first (in 1975) and it's still the best! And while they do tend to pile the gelato high in the pans, which someone pointed out means the gelato is not handmade, I was assured, by a fiorentino friend, that everything is made in their plant and they don't indulge in shortcuts, etc. It can be crowded due to its location near Piazza Signoria, but across from the doorway on the narrow Via Tavolini, they have a little shaded pavilion that one can sit in while enjoying the deliciousness. Oh, and if they're offering semifreddo, get it...even better than the gelato...and that's saying something! (website: www.percheno.firenze.it)
