“Magnificent location, great atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

The B&B is ideally located in the very heart of Florence, literally 10 steps away from the Santa Croce church. The rooms are spacious and bathrooms are big and very clean. Although I read about issues with key transfer in case of late arrivals, we had no problems at all in picking up the keys from a restaurant nearby. For Italian standards, the breakfast is rich and has a big variation. People are friendly and not pushy. The only minus to it is that the street can be noisy at night, as two bars are located in the immediate vicinity of the B&B. So either take earplugs or stay up late enough yourself, not to be woken up in the middle of the night ;-)

This quaint B & B is just 1/2 block from the Opera Della Santa Croce and a 10-15 minute walk to almost everything else. Carlo is warm, enthusiastic and eager to make your stay as pleasant as he can. The other reviews are correct about the rooms. They are spacious and appointed as if you're in an older Tuscan villa. The street noise kept us from enjoying the cool nights and although the AC wasn't a powerhouse, we stayed cool enough to sleep.
The only real downside to this charming B&B is that the pillows are flat and hard, but that seemed to be the norm at several other hotels we visited.
All in all, a delightful place.

This is a very good B&B right in the heart of the old city. It is only a few minutes walk to just about everything in Florence? The rooms are ample, well furnished and clean. All amenities are good. The breakfast is more than adequate for a continental style. Carlo is very friendly and helpful with suggested places to go and eat. Extra room keys are no problem as we had shoppers and museum goers in a part of six. It is in the middle of town so if you need to be aware there is a fair bit of street noise practically all night - the windows help but the A/C is a bit basic; so perhaps not recommended in the height of summer. Overall however we would love to stay again at the De Benci, thanks Carlo!

Room Tip: There are four rooms with names rather than numbers, which are very similar. We stayed in Dante whi...

Carlo runs a very nice B&B, centrally located within a 10 minute walk to the heart of Florence. Rooms are unusually large and bright with high ceilings with exposed beams, and nicely appointed with antiques. The modern bathrooms are beautifully done and very spacious, of the best we've seen in Italy. The one downside is that although rooms are air conditioned, they don't function all too well in the high heat and humidity of the Florentine summer. This is less noticeable at night when the outside temp drops, so sleeping is comfortable; but don't expect the room to be frigid-cold or to even get to the temp you set. Given the reasonable price for the quality of this B&B, this shouldn't be a turn off, especially if you are visiting outside of high summer season.

Breakfast is standard Euro-style fare; cold cereal, assorted cheeses and meats, fruits, cakes, bread for toast and packaged cornettos (croissants) and cookies, together with coffee (incl. capaccino/espresso) and juice. Certainly adequate but not otherwise creative for a B&B. But the accommodation and Carlo's all around helpfulness make this place a wonderful and recommended place to stay.

Room Tip: There are only 4 rooms (all very similar) on the same floor, opening to the small entrance lobby or...

I can not tell you how much we loved our room. Very large, very clean, great bathroom. Friendly operation. A little noise from street below. But with windows closed it quite and old stone building is cool. I would definitely recommend this B&B and stay here again.

Cannot fault the large, clean room & friendly owner.
But unfortunatly the weekend stay was spoilt by the noise of shouting from people outside the bars in the street below and car horns untill 4.00 AM on both Friday and Saturday nights.
This is obviously beyond the control of the owner, but due to this I would not stay here again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
In the heart of the old city of Florence, just between Piazza Santa Croce and Piazza della Signoria, there is De Benci b&b, bed and breakfast in Florence, ideal base for visiting one of the most beautiful cities on earth and its art.The visit, the discovery of the capital of the Renaissance already begins within the walls of De Benci b&b.The atmosphere is very charming, stylish and romantic: you will be welcomed into elegantly furnished suites with every modern comfort (air conditioning/heating, private bathroom in room, digital lcd tv - DTV, internet connection, Etc.).The bed and breakfast is on the fourth floor of an ancient building (dating back to 1300) with the recent installation of modern lift. The thick and textured interior walls are painted rose. The doors are as light as ivory. Very wide windows let the light go in. The typical Tuscan floor and the ancient wooden-beam ceiling enrich the entire structure. In all over the place you can find small details in characteristic stone (i.E. Pietra serena), in ancient brick or in dark wrought iron and brass that decorate the environment, but soft colour and scent of wood reign over all. Every detail has been chosen with great care, taste and passion. ... more   less
