“Lovely hotel and service, not perfectly located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2010

We stayed here three nights with two children, ages 7 and 10. Used Hilton Honors points to book the room and arranged (with the hotel staff directly, via email) to have an upgrade to a room that would accommodate 2 adults and 2 children. (A tip for families: If you are using Hilton Honors points in Europe, most hotels do not have published family rooms. If you contact the hotels directly, however, it is often possible to make arrangements for a sofa bed or other arrangements to accommodate children.)

The rooms in the hotel are gorgeous -- ultra modern furnishings, very nice bath fixtures, very quiet. There is also free wireless Internet and free business center (something for which a lot of other hotels in the local will charge $20 per day). The staff is extremely gracious and helpful, and there is also a nice collection of books -- in many languages on many subjects -- in the lobby that guests are welcome to borrow, also at no charge. There is a restaurant and bar on site and the pasta was cooked __ perfectly __.

The one down-side to the hotel is the location, approx. 10 minutes by bus from the City Center. There is a direct bus line across the street from the hotel, however, that is clean and safe. A couple of times, we took the taxi back to the hotel (once because it was during a bus strike and once because our kids were exhausted and the bus seemed to be taking a very long time.)

I think the hotel -- through its staff and very lovely accommodations -- tries harder than other hotels because they know they are not perfectly located. If you are willing to stay 10 minutes outside the center of Florence, this is a very good place. This would also be a very good place if you are renting a car -- as it would be easy to keep a car here and get out to the roads to explore Tuscany.

The hotel is relatively new and will be MUCH better when the surrounding area develops a little. Currently there is nothing within walking distance so when staying here you are stuck. That's fine if you are just catching an early morning flight (as I was) but if you wanted something more you would be disappointed. The food service here is sub-par, so this is a disappointment for Italy. There is only room service during the hours of dining room operation (7:30 - 10:00 p.m.) and the menu is limited. While the food is okay, the bread was a day old and creativity lacking. I would stay here again for the proximity to the airport (five minutes) but would make other arrangements for eating.

This appears to be a hotel for big American tour groups so the dining room is crowded with visitors.

Room – King (note – we stayed here on Hilton Reward Points)
[ My scale: failure – below average – average – above average – the best ]
About me - I am 6ft, 270lbs Texan that travels all the time and all over the world

} Bottom Line – good, but very very noisy – might impact your ability to get a decent night's sleep

} First Impression from the outside – [above average] – this hotel is outside the main downtown in the business park area of town. Thus it has more space to work with and nice arrival space.

} First Impression of the lobby –[above average] – this is better than a Hilton Garden back home. Large and nicely decorated/furnished.

} First Impression of the room – [average] – it is what you expect for this level of hotel. Nice, medium size bath, nice furnishings –
although the TV is this small LCD mounted (maybe 21”) on the wall – seems odd – like they meant to put a big TV there (like they do in the US) – and then they did not.
They have hard word floors (or something that look like that) in the room.

}Room – The Bathroom – [average] – nice and what you expect for this level of hotel.
They have the shown/bath combo you see in Europe – with this large piece of glass that acts like a shower curtain for half of the tub. It swings. It looks nice (does not work all that well to keep the water in) – but you will see this in many nice Europe hotels.
Has a bidet.

}Room – The Bed – [above average – best] – the Hilton garden chain is known for there adjustable (on each side beds). We liked it. It also had all the right linens and pillows.

}Noise – [failure] – we stayed in a room on the second floor around the corner and few rooms down from the elevator. The elevator noise was not an issue.
But you can hear every footstep in the hallway ,every word spoken in the hallway (quiet or loud), every foot step in the room above you, and the doors to the stairs are next to the elevator and used quite a bit – and they slam closed very loudly every time. This woke us up more than a few times. So be warned. Ask for a room at the end of the 2 hallways.

}Heat/Cool – [above average] – it says it can only do a +3 or -3 temperature swing, but the control lets you set the actual temperature (25C for example). This was much better than the dial +/- settings you see in other hotels. The weather was cool at night when we were there, so being able to set the temperature and have heat or cool was a plus.

}Service – Housekeeping – [average] – did a good job .
Although, I am not sure if they changed the bed linens one day – went I left the card on the bed asking them to do so. (they normally do this every 3 days)

} Service – Front desk and Concierge – [average] – what I expected for this level of hotel, helpful

} Service – Food – they have a breakfast buffet, but we did not try it (as it was not included with our reward reservation)

} Service – overall attitude from mgmt through to the staff – we never really tested this – but it seems ok.

} Little Extras
) Nice bar area to sit in, has a fireplace, tv, & nice restrooms right there
) Nice common patio just outside the bar area
) Has a room key controlled 2 PC area
) Has a DIY (self service) laundry – which we did use – 10 euro total – 1 wash – 1 dry – Expensive, but convenient
) Has a free library in the lobby - many book on open shelves to borrow during your stay

} Other Notes
) there is a store by the front desk for snacks/misc items
) if you want ice – there is one machine in the store by the front desk
) It is a 10-15 euro taxi ride to the train station (and hence downtown where everything is) - you need to factor this in (there is also the 22 bus)
) It is in a new business park, so don’t expect much within walking distance from the hotel.
) It does have a nice garage under the hotel (we did not use this)

Would I stay there again? – MAYBE – I like it, but the noise is an issue.
Would I recommend this place to a friend? - MAYBE

My wife and I stayed here for 6 nights during our Florence trip. The hotel is very clean, rooms nicely furnished (a "spartan-esque European feel), and staff was attentive. The value compared to other hotels was very good, the one caveat is that you need a car or take public transportation to reach the center of Florence - not a big deal, public trans was great in Florence (get the 7 day bus pass, ride a lot, low cost). Other than the perimeter location, this was a superb hotel and value.

Some friends asked about not getting the "italy" experience at a chain hotel, for us not a problem, we only slept there and grabbed a quick breakfast - did not need more than that - spending most of out daylight and evenings downtown getting the 'experience'.

The location is slightly inconvenient, but we liked being near the large grocery store. The staff was very helpful when we had to cancel our first night due to volcanic ash. They handled everything perfectly.

Our room was clean and nice, kind of Ikea style. We only got to stay for two nights but wouldn't have minded a longer stay. Breakfast was good. All in all, a very user friendly place. I'd stay there again if we return to Florence.

We got a "junior suite" for a week in Florence, and it was beautiful and spacious with a king-size bed in one room, bathroom, and living area with queen-size fold-out bed. It was plenty big enough for my husband, me, and 2 college-aged children - much larger than I expected from a hotel in Italy. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating, especially the bartender Georgio, who went out of his way to befriend us and speak English. There's a beautiful lobby area and bar, and small restaurant that's pretty but doesn't have a very extensive menu. My one complaint about the place is its location - it's a few miles away from the city center of Florence, so you have to take a bus everywhere, and there aren't many restaurants within walking distance, so you have to figure that into your time table. I would, however, go back there!

Free parking and a short bus ride to the Duomo, this hotel was excellent for our 3-night stay in mid-April. The room was exceptionally comfortable and included an excellent bed, wonderful shower, mini-fridge and tea maker. The window actually opened so we could get some fresh air. The free wi-fi was great to use with our i-Pod touch and there were plenty of outlets to recharge our camera batteries, GPS and i-Pod. The clock radio had an MP3 plug so we could listen to our music and the satellite TV had plenty of options. The #22 bus to the city center left from across the street (and down the long hotel driveway) and the desk sold the bus tickets. We had dinner at the restaurant one night and found the food quite good, though the restaurant was very noisy with a large tour group having their meal at the same time. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had an excellent stay and would highly recommend the property.
