“Well located, clean, good value, somewhat old”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

This hotel is a well located budget option in Florence. Altough the entrance hall is in very bad condition, don't let that put you off, the hotel itself is clean and well kept. The hotel looks somewhat old, but is in good condition. The owner was very nice and helpful on arrival. The rooms are wide and clean, with a nice private toilet and bathroom. Be aware tough, that the hotel is on a main road, so it can be noisy. The breakfast was simple and effective, consisting of bread (heated for you by the owners), cereals and juice. There is fast wifi available also in the hotel, which is very nice. I recommend this hotel for the budget oriented traveler, it is also very close to main attractions (accademia, duomo) and within a reasonable walking distance from train station.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room not overlooking the street.

Good location, about ten min walk from train station. This would prob be around 2 star hotel in England. Rooms look basic because the furniture is dated but but we found the room & bedding clean. Staff are very knowledgeable about the area and the breakfast was a good continental style.
You do get what you pay for & perhaps some reviewers where expecting more luxury for the price but thats unrealistic. It has a homely feel of a dated guest house.
On the minus side the hall and stairwell to the hotel is very off putting and there are some stairs to some rooms. And although the street is easy to find the hotel isn't - Look for the small hotel name plate next to the door on the street as there is no door number.
Overall great value though.

We stayed 4 nights and found this hotel to be quite basic overall. It was very shabby, but clean. The room was huge & had an extra single & two pullout beds, so could sleep 5. The bathroom was tiny and only a wet room, toilet, bidet, basin & shower out of wall. So once you use the shower everything is wet and a little slippery. Airconditioning was broken, so it was very hot in the room. We asked for a fan & put this under the open window for some relief. Quite a bit of noise from ground floor cafe cooking in the morning & constant clunking of dishes for the entire day & into the night - but we had to have window wide open for air! No fridge in room. Breakfast does not star until 8am, so when doing full day trips you miss out & finding something on the street is tough that early. I did request something be left for us, but this was just forgotten. Breakfast is basic, but adequate. As it was high season all hotels had inflated their prices & this was definitely over priced for what was on offer. But if looking for a good base in Florence just to sleep, this this place fits that requirement.

Hotel San Marco is near the train station, an is in the heart of the tourist places as Duomo, Accademia, etc.
Andre, the owner, and the staff are a very friendly.
The room was clean and comfortable, internet worked very fast all the time.
Breakfast included in the rate is complete and healthy.

This was probably the best hotel on our trip. The location was just awesome! 5 mins. walk to Duomo, 2 mins to the Accademia, 10-15 mins. from the train station. Rooms were clean, staff was nice (although the older gentleman doesn't speak much English). AC and WiFi worked well. We had a great room on the top floor (ask for room 16), that felt really tucked away and quiet, almost like a little cabin. Breakfast was good (by Italian standards), the people on here complaining about the breakfasts have obviously never been to Italy (Note: you will not get sausage and bacon unless you go to a specific English/American place). Had a sufficient lift to get our two bags up to the third floor hotel. All in all we had a wonderful time here and would certainly recommend it. I would probably avoid a room on the front street if you could though.

Room Tip: Room 16 (DOUBLE with attached bath) was oustanding for us. There was a snafu from the booking site...

We really loved our stay at San Marco's: the brother and sister, who run the hotel, are really wonderfull people, giving us brilliant inside information, even booking tables at restaurants for us and giving wonderfull advice at any given time.
The rooms were simple and clean, the breakfast equally simple, yet perfect, and the hotel provided exactly what we were looking for: a place to stay in walking distance of the duomo.
We'll defenitely be back!

The hotel is on the 3rd floor but there is a small lift to get heavier bags upstairs. The stairwell doesn't make the best impression but we liked the hotel overall. The location is excellent, right in the centre of the main sights. We had a double room with en suite. The room was clean and had air con at no extra cost. The rooms are at the back of the building so you get a good night's sleep. The breakfast was good, there was fruit, cereals, melba toast, nuts and fruit juices laid out and the staff would offer croissants then warm them up for you. The staff also make tea and coffee for you. The staff were helpful. I'd go back.
