We just had a fantastic stay at the Relais Piazza Signoria.
We had booked the "Penthouse" or Attico Signoria based on reviews from TA. The first night we were given a lower room because of a name mix-up. The lower room was actually very, very nice. Room 102 is on the first floor (ie 2nd in USA) near reception. It has two large windows looking straight onto the Piazza with a view of the Palazzo Vecchio, the Neptune fountain and Michalangelo's David. The window ledge was 3 feet deep and I spent a good couple of hours sitting on a cushion people watching. Although we were just one floor above the level of the Piazza, the windows had superb sound insulation. It was amazing, actually, to close the window and hear the outside noise completely disappear. I would not worry about disturbance from outside.
I emailed the manager about the room mix-up and that we were going on a wine tour early the next morning. He let us know all would be rearranged, and when we got back from the tour our bags had been moved up and we were installed in the Penthouse. Bigger apartment with a separate living room. All nicely appointed. This time we had more of an aerial view of the Piazza from a delightful terrace with a table and chairs to have an evening aperitif looking at the view. Also over the rooftops to see the Duomo. I was delighted to find that a rooftop terrace we could see 2 doors away was the Cafe terrace of the Uffizi Museum, we could spot our windows from the Uffizi the next day.
I would happily have stayed in either room we had. The manager was very pleasant and helpful once we let him know we had the wrong room.
There are 2 Gelaterias within 10 feet of the entrance. We ate in small, backstreet restaurants. Osteria Vecchio Vicolo, on Via Lambertesca just behind the Relais had great food and was very reasonable. The one drink we had at a Cafe on the Piazza was pretty expensive. But we always had our personal space with the same view back at the Relais.
102 has wide window ledges to people watch from. the Attic, 605, has a great terrace and amazing vie...
