“Saving the Best for Last”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

We booked Villa Olmi as our last stop in Italy hoping to "save the best for last." We were certainly pleased with our decision. Everything about Villa Olmi was excellent--our spacious room, the grounds, the main villa, food, and the staff. Make sure to take time to explore the beautifully manicured hedges and rose garden. The staff was very gracious and helpful--especially Sabrina at the front desk. They provided great attention to detail, starting with a warm checking in experience (including cookies and beverages). We started each day with a wonderful breakfast and then a ride to Florence city center on the shuttle. The resort combines the best of the old and the new. It's a centuries old property with all the updated modern conveniences, including Internet WiFi or shared PC's in the main building. We highly recommend Villa Olmi.

Beautiful and well run old estate. We chose the simplest room and still it was perfect for our stay. Spacious with beautiful antique furniture and all modern comforts, wonderful bathroom. Very convenient complimentary shuttle to the centre several times in the morning (last 11.00) and in the evening (last 19.30), takes 15 min, reservation the night before recommended as places are limited. Perfect place to come back in the evening after the drive through Tuscan hills or exploring the city centre. A very good choice for corporate events as well. We participated in the Ferrari event and the hotel provided a beautiful background for our start and a well organised dinner party for the finish. Very happy with the customer service as well. Fully recommended.

My husband and i had booked in the "Mulino di Firenze" hotel (4 stars) so when we arrived to Florence we were informed that the night before something happened in the hotel and there was a total black out in all of the rooms and the technicians are fixing it,however the electricity was not fixed yet in two rooms and one of them happened to be our room;so Mulino di Firenze hotel booked us in "Villa Olmi Resort " (5 stars) which is 2 min away from Mulino di firenze hotel, and told us that we will pay the same amount in Mulino Hotel although the rooms in Villa Olmi cost more since its a 5 star.
So when we arrived to Villa Olmi Resort we had a great welcome and we were upgraded to a suite not a classic double room!
It was from the best Hotels we have been too ,it feels so royal so classy so luxurious and it totally reflects the art and spirit of Florence! The Hotel campus is so nice as if you are in a castle garden, the staff is always smiling and helpful, and our room was awsome:)
We thank the Villa Olmi Resort hotel and staff for making our stay more than pleasant:)

Rooms:The rooms were large, clean and decorated with antique paintings and furniture. I almost felt like we were staying in a museum. I wasn't a fan of the linen sheets, but wife was.

Location: About a 10 minute cab ride from Florence. They offer a shuttle service, which needs improvement. It starts at 9am, which makes getting to some of the earlier tours challenging. It takes about 20 minutes before you get dropped off at the National Library (Biblioteca Nationale). While they always seemed to make or find room, more than once we were told that the shuttle was full. It takes 25Euro to get a cab to Santa Maria Novella and about 15-17 Euro to get to the Ponte Vecchio. The real problem is the shuttle service ends at 7:30pm. Florentines don't even begin dinner until after 7pm. So you will need to find a cab home each night. This was much harder to do this than I thought it would be.
They could easily fix the shuttle problem by adding a shuttle run starting at 7am and adding one, at least one shuttle at 11pm.

Services:Shuttle:see above.
Wifi- was fairly spotty, but at least was free. There was better internet available in the lobby.
They offered a continental breakfast that was excellent. They offered a wide variety of food choices
We did really like this hotel. If you use this hotel as a base to drive to Siena or the rest of Tuscany it would be fine, even excellent. I don't think I would stay here again if exploring downtown Florence, just too inconvenient. (If you buy anything (gifts, spices, leather etc) , you will need carry it around all day until you return to the hotel). If they fixed the shuttle problem- I would happily return.

We liked the staff being very friendly with a good sense of humour. The pool was nice within a little garden. Breakfast was very good (especially for Italy). Sweet and ham, salamis etc. Very good cappuchino as well. The room was a bit small, but with a nice big terrace. The air conditioning system runs through the roof, which makes it quite noisy at night. We used the shuttle once to go to town, which worked very well. We took a taxi home, with 12,50 EUR ok in pricing. It would be nice to have 1 shuttle later at night to get home. The hotel was very clean, room was made several times a day. Overall very good value for money.
Also good location for trips into the chianti, to Lucca etc.

They advertise a shuttle service to and from Florence, but it stops at 7pm, so if you want to eat out in Florence you either have to drive, or pay 25 Euro each way in a taxi.
Otherwise it was elegant if perhaps a little stuffy. Relatively poor breakfasts (no muesli) with grumpy waiters. Mostly the staff were friendly however. The most enjoyable feature is a lovely moonlit and candlelit bar in the garden, where you can sit in comfortable armchairs and drink a nightcap under the stars.
Would have given it 4 stars except for the shuttle.

The entrance (curb appeal) is dreary, the lobby is pretentious and the location is in-town (suburban Florence) and boring. It is surrounded by a "park", which is small and cannot disguise the other urban landscape ringing the property. The website makes this hotel look marvelous but this is a hotel you could find in any American city. If that's what you want it will work perfectly for you. If, however, you want a much more more authentic experience you should look into the Chianti hills, the area around Siena, etc. We did not eat at Villa Olmi so I cannot comment on the food. The rooms were average. Nicely appointed but there was a sameness to them that, again, reminded me of the States. When we travel authenticity is important to us. Villa Olmi is just another average place to sleep.
