“You feel at home !!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Very charming place. Edo and vary make you feel like you're visiting relatives. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Everything you need for a safe, relaxing and carefree stay. It is located just outside of the city hotspots but it is a very short and interesting walk to just about everywhere in florence. The host Vary and Edo are extremely friendly and knowledgable. The food that Vary cooks will make you want to stay inside and eat all day and nite !!!!!

We stayed at Giglio Bianco last September for 4 nights, it is really a great B&B with wonderful hosts. Vary & Edo on arrival sit you down in the living room where you are given the low down on Florence & provided with maps, ticketing advice & what to see & how to get there. Giglio Bianco is very central but just outside the tourist area, so its quite but very close to the Boboli Gardens just accross the road, 5 mins to the Pitti Palace & 10 mins to the Ponte Vecchio. Edo provided a mobile phone incase we got lost, but we never used it. The room with ensuite was excellent, very clean & well mantained, it was airconditioned & also a bar fridge is provided in the room. Free WIFI is provided with good signal. Filtered cold spring water is provided daily. The special dinner cooked by Vary was superb, 5 star restaurant quality, as were her daily breakfasts with pastrys, toast etc & you can have eggs cooked anyway you wish. They gave us great help in organising travel to the Ferrari factory & museum as well as organising a rental car for us for our next leg to Siena & Tuscany. Highly recommended & good value.

Room Tip: Both rooms are excellent.

We stayed at this place a while back and have always meant to review because it really is an outstanding B&B. We have recommended to friends and family - and recommend their dinner too! The host & hostess are really knowledgeable and on the night that we didn't have the in-house dinner, their eating out recommendation was spot-on.

This was the only B&B we stayed in that the owners lived onsite. They were lovely and very helpful with advise on seeing Florence in the short time we stayed. The room & bathroom were very nice and the quality of the fittings and bed linen very good.
We enjoyed the breakfast and special dinner Vary prepared. She is a wonderful cook and it was a very pleasant evening shared with the other guests. Recommend the accommodation and also the special dinner. Good value.

My wife, son and I were recommended to stay at this place from some of our friends. Easy access by taxi from the Ferrovia de Firenze (the train station). Don't take the bus as the drivers don't understand english, and if you don't know which stop to get off on you will be walking a long way!

As we learned, if you can have a bus get you to Pallazzo Pitti (the Pitti Palace), you are within about 7 minutes walking distance of the B&B.

Our hosts were incredible and we felt like part of their family almost as soon as we arrived. We were brought to the lounge/dining room for an orientation, tips for the locale on how not to get cheated buying leather goods. They also set up a reservation at a local restaurant for us the day we arrived that I would recommend, and recommended a couple of places during our stay.

Bottled chilled water and other drinks are provided in a common area fridge that you can keep in your in-room fridge.

The best part was that Edo and Vary make you feel like family almost as soon as you arrive. Vary is a gourmet chef and she makes breakfast to order each morning accommodating individual's food preferences. We also ordered the gourmet dinner on our last night there and were presented with a nice cozy atmosphere and 4 courses of food that you might expect out of a top-tier 5-star restaurant.

They also have a laundry service - a necessity when you are moving from city to city in Italy and living out of your suitcase. Laundry service value was incredible and the convenience was out of this world.

Our room was nice and cozy, clean and well maintained during our visit. We would highly recommend this B&B on all points, and will stay here again. We also understand that Vary and Edo travel to the US in the wintertime and will be more than happy to extend a visit to our home for them when they arrive - Yeah! It was THAT GOOD!!

Room Tip: I believe all the rooms here are good and kept to the same high standards - after all they're in...

We stayed at this charming B&B for 3 nights in early October and the whole experience was wonderful: great location, comfortable room, delicious breakfast and very helpful hosts, Vary and Edo. We made the right decision to experience one of Chef Vary's 5 course meals and we weren't disappointed. The meal was exquisite from start to finish. We chose to dine there the next night as well and again it was superb! We highly recommend this B&B in Florence for a truly unique experience!

This is a charming, well-run,cosy, two bedroomed B&B (we had the red room) within about 5 minutes walk of the Ponte Vecchio and within easy reach of Florence's centre and museums, very close to the Pitti Palace and opposite the Boboli Gardens. Fantastic location to get to everything easily - Florence is a small, friendly, attractive historical town that you can take a day or a year to see - there is so much to offer in and around the town centre and in the regions. I adored Florence the first time I went there 35 years ago, and I was looking forward to revisiting it. It, and the B&B, which had been so highly rated on Tripadvisor, did not disappoint.
I felt like I knew the host Edo already from the fantastically responsive and helpful emails he had sent me during the booking process and before we arrived and when we met him I felt like we were being welcomed into his family. The B&B is within his and hostess and chef Vary's own apartment, so you do really feel at home, because it is indeed a home and this makes a vast difference to your overall experience. The furnishings and decor were lovely, the beds very comfortable (although I prefer firmer pillows myself, these being too soft). A big bathroom with a huge shower cubicle, plenty of towels, loads of complimentary shower gels, shampoo etc. My teenage daughter and I were treated very warmly, and Vary even kindly found some paracetomol for my daughter when my daughter had a nasty cold as I could not locate mine.
The B&B is up two flights of stairs, no lift, so pack light (a good tip when travelling anyway thru Italy as everywhere we stayed in B&B's seemed to have stairs and carting heavy luggage on trains is awkward) although Edo usually offers to help. The breakfasts were absolutely lovely in their gorgeous sitting/dining room which has antique, tasteful furniture in it. Sitting eating breakfast admiring the views each morning was really a wonderful experience. We had free access to a guest PC and free wifi (although the internet connection speed was very slow unfortunately). We got lots of tips about sightseeing from both Vary and Edo, they suggested where to eat, what to do, etc etc - they were more than happy to help us.
I must say in the interests of an absolutely honest review that Vary can be quite forthright about expressing her opinions sometimes tho, and I did find this a little intimidating at times. That's just how Vary is though, she means no offence, and I concluded after a bit that she obviously felt so comfortable with us, that in a way, it was a compliment that she could talk with us like she'd known us all our lives - which is how we felt when we were there. Like being with old friends. The interest she and Edo took in us, and the great cooking and help they gave us were fantastic.
They were both very interested in what we were planning to do/had done to date and they spent quite a lot of time with us talking to us about our plans and what we had experienced so far which was great. We did a very good cooking class with Vary too where we learned a lot about Italian cooking, about food generally, and interesting related things, (although it was more of a cooking demonstration as we did not actually get to do any cooking ourselves, which I admit to being a little disappointed about - perhaps a misunderstanding on my part?) and the resulting meal was extremely good so I can recommend it.
One thing we never understood though was why Vary (and a lot of other people living in Florence) was so dismissive of Pisa which we really loved visiting and thoroughly enjoyed. Don't miss going to Pisa, despite what Vary may say about it! - it is an absolutely worthwhile day trip.
My only small "winges" about the B&B - and they are relatively minor in the scheme of things- was 1) that I paid the most of any other B&B in Italy that we stayed at for my clothes to be washed and dried at the B&B, but when they came back disappointingly, nothing had been folded at all, unlike anywhere else we stayed where everything was folded neatly; and 2) the water pressure in the shower, if someone else was having a shower at that time, was woeful - it was a case of 'running around to get wet'.
Wish I had another day or two in the area so we could have seen Sienna, Lucca and other towns of Tuscany - so consider spending more time in the Florence region if you are able, as it would be highly worthwhile. The Tuscan countryside is as lovely as they say and every little town in the region has history and charm. The people are mostly absolutely delightful too which is part of what makes Italy so special.
Would highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a personalised, charming experience where your hosts take the time to give you an experience you will not forget.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms and you cannot go wrong with either. If you need a single bed in one room t...
