“Nowhere better to stay in Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2010

Our second visit and tried another apartment/room - just gorgeous - comfortable, clean, beautifully appointed. Quite expensive now the £/Euro is poor, but the location, staff, breakfast [if a bit small] are fantastic.
For reasonable meals in a great informal atmosphere, try the Guelph, near the post office, and for breakfast, coffees and snacks the Cafe Post nearby or the wonderful cafe in the Piazza Republica.
Once you've done the big stuff, don't forget the Fra Angelicos at San Marco.
Great busker in the P. Della Signoria later in the evening. Bus to Siena is the best way.

We booked Casa del Garbo based on many excellent reviews on Tripadvisor, we were not disappointed. The B&B was conveniently positioned in the centre of Florence, within easy reach of all places of interest.

Although our room didn't have a view we weren't worried as we were there to visit the sites, only using the room to sleep in..
The large bed was very comfortable, we had three peaceful nights sleep during our stay.

There was a small fridge (mini bar, chargeable) stocked with a selection of drinks and small snacks, if you so desired .

The bathroom was more then adequate for our needs with shower gel, hair shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste provided.

The breakfast supplied was plentiful with a large selection fresh fruit, meats, cheese, yoghurts, bread rolls and croissants served in a lovely breakfast room.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Casa del Garbo to anyone wanting to visit Florence. We only wish our stay was longer.

I was originally afraid to write a positive review of La Casa del Garbo out of fear that it would be "discovered" and I would never be able to get a future reservation. Yes, it is that great of a place! Our room overlooked Piazza della Signoria, literally. We did not even have to leave our room to experience the most visited section of Firenze. We just opened the windows!

The room itself was top-notch; the best we found in all of our travels in Italy (and there havve been a lot of travels.) The decor resembled that of the period of the building (around 12th century) with beamed cielings, wall tapestries, engravings. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were spacious and in perfectly working order (which is a lot to say for most bathrooms in Italy).

Most importantly, however, is the great staff. They were the most helpful and considerate we have experienced in our travels. For example, my husband bought me a rose one evening. Since I didn't have a vase, I stuck it in a water bottle overnight. The next day, I found my rose in a bud vase, courtesy of the staff. They also were eager to offer restaurant and tourist advice. We had our best meal in Firenze based on a staff recommendation.

Anyway, I have many more great things to say, but I won't spoil it for you. It's best to experience La Casa Del Garbo for yourself.

We were at CDG for four nights. As others have said, the location was perfect and the staff is very friendly and helpful. There are a few drawbacks though that travelers should be aware of before booking there. The office is only staffed part-time. There is no one there at night. And there is nobody in the office for 2 hours in the afternoon. We couldn't find the hotel after being dropped off at the opposite corner of the square by our taxi. I called but there was no answer as it was during the afternoon break period. Finally, my companion left me with our luggage and searched the square until he found it. He was let in by a housekeeper. There was no sign or anything to identify the inn except for a very small plaque on the door. Also, access to all rooms requires climbing stairs. There is no elevator. The breakfast, while adequate was a bit skimpy. They serve a bottled orange drink that is full of sugar and just tasted like soda pop to me. There was fresh fruit, cheese and ham with sugar coated croissants (I would have preferred them without the sugar coating). The rooms do not have telephones which may be a problem for some. The rooms also have no clocks. Our room did have a stocked mini-bar and an electric kettle for making tea and instant coffee. All in all CDG is a good value if the above issues are not important.

Casa del Garbo (means good manners in Italian; nothing to do with Greta) is a perfect spot to enjoy the sights of Florence. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. You are located right on the Piazza della Signoria so you can access all the central sights at your leisure and when the hordes have left the city. It's so convenient you can pop back for a rest at any point and then continue with your sightseeing. Despite it's central location there is no signficant noise from the square after 11pm so a good nights sleep is no problem. Breakfast is ample and fiendly. The Casa del G is spotlessly clean and the staff are all efficient and welcoming.
Tip: for tickets to Uffizzi and Academia try the kiosk behind the Church of Orsanmichele. It's open from 10am and has good tickets - look out for late openings when the Uffizzi is a very pleasant experience.

Located in a quiet corner of the Piazza della Signoria, this gem is spacious, provides a lovely breakfast and free internet access. Close to all major points of interest. I highly recommend this B&B...but it IS a B&B - no staff on site at night, only one key available per room, and no lift.

This B&B was perfect for our Italian vacation in Florence. We stayed 4 nights and couldn't have been happier with the location, the accomodations and the service. Virgilio was there to greet us when we arrived and he was so nice and friendly. He showed us to our beautiful room (Gemma Room) and gave us a brief introduction to the city. He also maintains and serves breakfast in the morning so it's lovely to talk to him about your day while you meet all of the other guests staying at the B&B. The location couldn't be more perfect. Located in the Piazza della Signoria, it's central to all of the sights, museums and restaurants. Only 2 blocks from the Arno River so you can easily access the Pitti Palace side of Florence.

We would definitely stay at La Casa del Garbo again and would HIGHLY recommend it for couples or friends traveling. It's clean, safe, in a great location and has a wonderful staff. The bed was comfortable, the room was large and we also loved the state of the art shower in the Gemma Room bathroom. Very cool!
