“Alessio is wonderful and so is his place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

Alessio, the owner and administrator of the place, is a true gentlemen, very professional, hospitable and respectful. We were really impressed with his customer service.

He really cared for our convenience and comfort. The room was a good size for both of us, very clean and made us feel at home. Although, the bathroom was not attached, it wasn't an inconvenience considering everything else was great.

The city of Firenze is great and our stay in Locanda Di Ciompi only made it better. If we ever visit Firenze again, we will definitely book at Locanda Di Ciompi!

Room Tip: Stay longer in Firenze! We really regretted not staying longer than 2 days! It's a beautiful pla...

I booked the Lancanda dei' Ciompi as Expedia had a deal on and it appeared to be well located to all the sights in Florence, it turned out to be a fantastic deal as this place is lovely. This guest house is on the other side of the city to the main train station but a very easy walk taking you past the beautiful Duomo. We were greated with the warmest welcome by the owner Alessio's daughter. We were shown to an office as we were earlier than the check in time and given a drink and many great tips on things to do and places to eat whether it be a snack or a 3 course dinner. We were given a map and places were marked on there for us, ensuring we had the best time possible seemed to be their priority. A top tip was provided on choosing the best gelato places, which did not let us down.
We were then shown to our room which was lovely, spacious, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was really lovely too with toiletries provided. The room had air conditioning but if you wanted fresh (well as fresh as city air gets) you were able to open the windows. There was also free Wi-Fi available. It is very close to all the main tourist attractions so you can walk everywhere and really soak in the atmoshpere of the city. Having said that the room we had was not noisy and we had a great nights sleep.
Breakfast was included in our deal and this was served at a little cafe a couple of doors down which was simple but nice. It has outdoor seating to people watch which was fun.
My only disappointment was that i could not return here when we returned to Florence after travelling about as it was booked up. I can see why, as this place is a gem and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I hope to visit Florence again and i will be booking here again if i do!

I just returned from 2 weeks in Italy, and Locanda de' Ciompi was easily the best accommodation during my trip. Alessio is a gem - he clearly takes pleasure in running this B&B and making sure his guests are comfortable. The room I stayed in was comfortable, clean, and spacious. The en suite bathroom was as well.

The location is perfect - very close to all the sights you'll be visiting, but also just a bit removed from the tourist traps and perhaps a bit more authentically Florence. The breakfast next door in the cafe is also very convenient and a good way to start your morning.

Stop reading this review and just book a room! You will not regret it.

Firstly, DO NOT listen to the (very few) negative reviews on here. They are from earlier when the B&B was under different management. Currently, the owner/manager is Alessio and he is the friendliest and most welcoming Italian I have met. He was there to greet us in person and provided us with maps and helpful hints about getting around, where to eat, current festivities in the city, etc. I'm sure if we had more questions he would have been more than accommodating. He also offers his personal phone number to reach him 24/7 in case of emergency.

We are a family of 5 and we stayed at Locanda de'Ciompi for three nights while in Florence. You really couldn't ask for a better location. It's ten minutes from the city center by foot (just walk in a straight line from the duomo) which is close enough to be convenient but far enough to be calm and quiet at night. It's also about a 20 minute walk from Santa Maria Novella train station - easy enough to do if you're leaving the city for a day trip, or if you have lots of luggage, a cab is only about 10-15 Euros.

The hotel itself is great. It's extremely secure, so you don't need to worry about leaving any valuables in your room. The rooms are spacious and charming and each have their own bathroom. They also come with a fridge and television, and large wardrobe/closet space if you need it. Wi-Fi is included (many European hotels charge extra). Breakfast is also included at a cafe just next door.

For our stay, we booked two rooms for our family of five. Unfortunately, the double room had been booked before us for our last night there, so Alessio and I agreed upon adding two single beds to the triple room on the last night. I completely forgot about our arrangement, thus we did not pack up and move our clothes/toiletries/luggage from the double room into the triple. When we returned that evening, we found Alessio's staff had carefully packed and moved our things for us. Nothing was damaged, stolen, or out of place - the staff had clearly taken care to give our belongings extra respect. I was very grateful for that, especially since WE dropped the ball and forgot to change rooms. It just goes to show how accommodating Alessio is.

All in all, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Great location, great rooms, and superb hospitality from Alessio. You won't find anything better!

My friend and I went on a 16-day tour of Italy and although we only stayed two of those nights in Florence, it was truly a standout for many reasons. Upon arriving at Locanda di Ciompi, we were blown away by its proximity to all the hot spots, not to mention, its grandiose, metal, SECURE entrance. When we entered, we were instantly greeted by the charming and extremely warm hotel owner, Alessio. He checked us in in his cozy, college Dean-esque office and provided us invaluable details about the surrounding area. Upon entering our room, we were blown away by how immaculate and delightful our it was.

Though the hotel is in the heart of the safe part of Florence (without being overwhelmed by tourists) on the first night we ventured outside our safe haven and encountered some robbers who had ostensibly been profiling my friend and me throughout the night.* Even though this incident is not something we’d like to repeat, Alessio went well above and beyond to help us repair our Florence experience. Without money for a short stretch, he bought us lunch at a marvelous deli. He patiently allowed us to utilize his office as a simulated Recovery Zone for all the calls we had to make as a result of the robbery. He made reservations on our behalf at Florence attractions. He even did his best to cheer us up and put some perspective on what we encountered. We honestly might’ve left Florence downtrodden and bitter if it weren’t the shelter Alessio provided by both his hotel and his hospitality.

*Note: Be careful with your belongings in Florence. While it’s not as widely known as a hotspot for gypsy-fueled robberies as other Italian cities (Rome, Naples and Venice) they certainly exist. Leave your valuables in the hotel safe; carry your money in a money belt; and if walking around late at night, make sure you’re in a trusted group, preferably that includes men. Be wary of those who ask to many personal questions, appear to be TOO helpful and aren’t drinking (even though they’re at a bar immersing themselves with those who are drinking).

Found by chance, this is an amazing hidden jewel. The locanda is optimally located near all major landmarks but still in a part of town not overcrowded by tourists. I had a clear sense of living as the Florentine people do. Owner Alessio epitomizes Italian hospitality. He is the most charming and helpful host ever! Rooms are spacious, stylishly furnished and having spent 2 weeks there, I felt like going back home every night. Wifi works great, and I was able to work, stream files and FaceTime back home. Needless to say, I recommend this affordable, small, very charming establishment without any hesitation. If I went back to Florence, I would not need to look any further. Best.place.ever.

My fiancé and I recently returned from a two week trip to Italy. We visited and stayed in numerous cities & towns from Northern to Southern Italy. Of all the hotels, rooms and B&B accommodations we had (we did not have a bad one), we both agreed that our favorite was the three night stay at Locanda de’ Ciompi in Florence. A small and quiet 5 room B&B, our room was very charming, clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and centrally located near the Duomo; making all of Florence’s great sites (e.g. Galleria dell’ Accademia, Galleria degli Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, etc.) within easy walking distance. Owner Alessio was tremendously hospitable and helpful not only during our stay, but afterwards. When a package we mailed home to the U.S. from Florence took longer to arrive than we thought it should, we contacted him for help. He went above and beyond by going to the nearby Post Office with our package tracking number to get information and check into the status of our package. That is first class service in my book! Thank you Alessio! We highly recommend Locanda de’ Ciompi for your stay in Florence; as we would definitely stay there again.
