As four female friends enjoying a short break ,we couldn't have picked better than Palazzo Gamba. The apartment is central to everything cultural, shopping ,eating out etc,in a small extremely safe block. We had a lovely two bedroomed apartment with two bathrooms with shower, and sitting/kitchen area .It was spotlessly clean, and perfect for our needs.Yes ,it can be noisy at night, but nothing earplugs can't sort out ! As long as you are prepared for that ,you will not regret the amazing location.
The staff at reception were very helpful with any questions, and suggested some very good restaurants. The bar cafeteria on the corner directly under the apartment block was great for breakfast coffee and pastries ,friendly and cheap. Beware that a lot of places charge you for sitting down, even inside, and a cover charge per person. At one place we were charged 24 euros for four cappuccinos' that tasted like dishwater, served by the rudest staff ever! We loved our time in Florence and would come back to Palazzo Gamba if we get the chance.

We stayed for four nights with our sons aged 10 and 8. The apartment was perfect for our needs. The beds were large and comfortable and the kitchen gave us the option for in-room meals when we wanted them.

From our room, we had beautiful views of the Duomo which was quite literally across the street. On Easter Sunday, we watched the parade and the burning of the cart from our window.

There are plenty of restaurants and shopping options steps from the apartment, so you cannot beat the location. The trade off for the location is that you will get some street noise, but in our view it was more than worth it.

The staff was extremely helpful both in answering questions before we arrived and helping us once we were there (i.e. helping us find parking for our car, permitting us to leave bags after checkout).

We had a spacious apartment that overlooked the piazza between the Baptistery and the Duomo. The location could not have been more superb. The apartment had all amenities, including a kitchen, and wonderful twelve foot ceilings. When it got too hot in the afternoon, we could sit in our living room and look out over the piazza. Tremendous location and wonderful hospitality.

We spent 3 nights here and it was the perfect location to walk everywhere famous in Florence! We had 3 apartments as we were travelling together as 3 families. Like all other reviewers, only 2 of the burners on the stove worked, oven didn't work, and both showers flooded the bathroom in each of our rooms! Large fridge was very useful. Very large family room areas - it was good to have some space after using hotel rooms for a couple of weeks. That said, we would probably book these apartments again as the location is perfect. As we were in Florence in winter just before Christmas, there were no queues at the Uffizi or David or anywhere else we went! We didn't have rain so it worked out to be a great time to visit Florence.

As a native Italian living in the USA, I travel to Italy several times a year with my family of 5 and on business. In July 2007 our family stayed two times at the Palazzo Gamba.

The only problem we encountered was the noise level from the first floor apartment we were given during our 2nd stay. We did not have a problem at all during our 1st stay as the 1st apartment was higher up and faced the street on side of Duomo, plus it had one inner bedroom that was not on any street.

The 1st flor apartment we had during our 2nd stay was directly over a busy street (Via Martelli) and did not have sound proof windows. This led to 2 nights of no sleep due to noise of buses, street cleaners, cars, vespas, all night long. Although we asked to be moved to a different apartment, there were no vacancies.

So only word of caution - ask for an apartment on high floor, not facing Via Martelli and with sound proof windows. Otherwise – beautiful apartments, simply equipped kitchen with dishwasher; bathrooms were small but clean, plenty of towels, great location.

Only one key is provided which makes it diffiult for familes or friends going in 2 different directions for the day.

Front desk staff helpful and coureous.
