“Atmospheric, but not really comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2015

No one would argue that this is not a pretty place, and I don't mean to be mean, but, practically speaking, there are some things you may want to think about before deciding to stay here. My husband and I got so excited about how charming and romantic the pictures of the chapel were that we failed to consider some things we should have. Though beautiful, it's extremely dark inside with hardly any windows for natural light and skimpy electrical lighting. Without any significant windows, you can't enjoy the view of the grounds. The surfaces in the bedroom are cold and hard and it isn't comfortable to walk barefoot on the floor. The bathroom feels like a closet and, to be honest, it's a little creepy to use the toilet "box" or the tiny shower with its mildewed shower curtain blowing around your legs. Though there is a small living room, the furniture is low, small, Victorian-like, and not comfortable to relax on. We normally select non-chain, not necessarily luxurious accommodations (cottages, apartments, B&B's, etc.) with a local flavor when we travel, so I'm not being the ugly American here, but depending on how long you are staying, you might want to think about the things that would make you comfortable, or uncomfortable, on your vacation.

The location on the edge of the built up area with a good bus route into the centre of Florence only ten minutes - very attractive - walk away, makes a car unnecessary; the difficult (or absence of) road signs made the drive to and from the airport the most stressful part of our stay. In every other respect it was wonderful. The early morning sun lit up the trunks of the pine trees that lined the wonderful drive, while the evening sky silhouetted the dome of the distant Duomo. The chapel with its painted ceiling is enchanting and the view through the open door into the grounds was very pretty. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Guido very kindly reserved tickets for us to visit the Uffizi Gallery. We got to the gallery at opening time (8.30am) and with our reservation were able to reach the Botticelli gallery first and see the Birth of Venus without the crowds which descended on us after 10 minutes! The Duomo is more impressive on the outside than the interior. The church of San Lorenzo with an audio commentary assisted by a tablet (not asprin!) was really helpful. Don't miss Michelangelo's Library with its stunning black marble staircase also at San Lorenzo.
We did enjoy the drive in our hire car on the S222 through Chianti Country to Siena (but not getting lost on the outskirts of Florence when we returned). Siena with so many historic buildings in the streets around the Piazza del Campo is well worth a visit.....but then so much else is too - we should have stayed for longer and we'll certainly return.

We arrived in Florence and got lost, so Guido met us and guided us in to his apartment, part of a large, beautiful villa. The residence is convenient to bus stops and local grocery stores, and is well equipped with cooking essentials. The apartment itself is beautiful, comfortable and interesting, with a gorgeous ceiling in the bedroom - evidence of it being the chapel of the villa in past life. We loved being there and will definitely stay there again if we return to Florence. Thanks to Guido and family for helping us navigate around Florence and outlying areas. They were very willing to help make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Grazie!

Room Tip: Actually, there is not a fitness center or swimming pool....I clicked that by accident. :-) But ther...

Staying at Residenza Strozzi was a smart decision. Just few minutes away from centre of Florence we came to our place. First thing that made us speechless was entrance and then the beautiful chapel.. it was like stepping into different time. Small and cozy, with small cute kitchen full of different sorts of olive oils, in the living room shell full of cd-s with old music... If you are running away from a busy and loud town, this is a place for you.
We just wanna thank our host Guido and his lovely wife Pia for make us feel like home.
If you‘ll be their next guest, don‘t hesitate to ask them for instructions or advices for nice places to see. They were very helpful.
Historical city, green environment and hospitality made our days unforgettable.
Hope we will come back again.

p.s. Take something that will protect you from Mosquitos, they are a little bit annoying :)

We (couple and two children 9+11) enjoyed the week in the stable in Residenza Strozzi. It is a special place and that made it also special for us. Unfortunately there were a lot of moskitos at the time we have been there, so we did not use the gardens very much. The apartment had everything in it you could wish for and daily life was therefor easy. We can recommend the stables to everybody!

My husband and I along with our daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren ages 16 and 13 were spent two wonderful weeks at the Residenza Strozzi. We stayed in the chapel, and our daughter's family stayed in the scuderia. What a wonderful experience! Guido and Pia made us all feel very welcome. She had made breads and cookies and prepared us a welcome basket.
The location is very peaceful. It is outside the historic district that can be reached by bus.
The gardens are a welcome relief after a day of sight seeing.
Guido and Pia put a lot of thought into renovating both the chapel and the scuderia.
It was a vacation all 6 of us loved and would most certainly return.
The bus is a short walk away as is a grocery store and a restaurant.
Thank you Guido and Pia!

We were lucky enough to stay at the Residenza Strozzi last October (2012) for a relaxing four nights. On arrival our host was very welcoming, and kindly showed us around the chapel and explained the local bus service, and the best places to visit in the area.

The owner had meticulously and tastefully renovated the chapel, complete with decorative frescos adorning the chapel ceiling and walls. The chapel itself is located in the grounds of a wealthy Hollywood media mogul country estate, with views across the distant skyline of Florence (you could make out the silhouette of The Duomo.)

I urge you to stay at this wonderful retreat and enjoy its peaceful surroundings and close proximity to Florence (in fact the pictures do not do this place justice.) I recommend this place and cannot wait to return again.
