If you are looking for backpackers accomodation with minimal comfort, this hotel is then perfect for you. There is no fridge/mini bar, old tv with no good reception, breakfast was terrible (not much choice really), in the extremelly small toilet they've managed to squeeze in the shower (only marked with separating curtains) and the sink and the toilet bowl...not sure how they managed..
Location not very good either...you can notice a lot of shady characters creeping around...especially when it gets dark...
Staff were ok, but there is not much really they can help you with.
We booked this hotel for 50 Euros a night in August, and were supposed to get a double room with a shared bathroom down the hall. Instead, the hotel messed up our reservation and gave us probably the nicest room in the hotel. We had a queen bed, a private bathroom, a TV, and a lot of space. And we paid the same rate we had booked for. Oh, and we were supposed to have to haul our luggage up to the third floor, but this room was on the main floor.
The staff were friendly, but not always easy to communicate with. The night man, while very friendly, spoke no English, and apparently my Italian was nearly unintelligible to him (probably true). The woman during the day spoke a lot more English, and was very helpful. She booked us a day trip out to Siena and Pisa, which was a highlight of our trip.
Overall, we had a great experience. The train station is two blocks away, the river is two blocks away, and the old city centre is no more than 10 minutes walk away. It was a great place to stay, but then, we got a little lucky on the room switch. If we had gotten the room we were supposed to, I doubt we'd have liked it as much.
This hotel is located just about two blocks from the train station. The hotel is on a nice side street with three or four restaurants. The only shortcoming with this hotel is the tall flight of stairs to the lobby. The owner did come down and take up our luggage and toted it down on checkout. Our room was very large and had a private terrace. We think we had the only terrace in the hotel. There is no in room safe or mini-bar. Breakfast is minimal, but good and the hotel is very clean. Would stay again.
we booked three days at the Palazzuolo Hotel, following some good reviews in Tripadvisor
The Hotel is a 1 star, and that's what U get.
We got quite a big room, with a third bed we didn't need.
The hotel is very clean, but very basic: we had only one towel each, and there were only 2 soap bars in the bathroom.
We didn't choose breakfast, so we couldn't check it.
The hotel position is very good: 5 minutes from the station, Santa Maria Novella and the river Arno, 15-20 minutes from Piazza della Signoria.
The area may seem a bit scruffy, but is becoming more and more vibrant, with good trattorias and cheap pubs (we had a spirit and a pint of beer for 2.5 euros each, in a pub very near to the hotel).
It's not a bad value for money, for 75 euros the double room with bath, but for the same money, if U're lucky, U can get nicer B&Bs all over Florence.
A negative note: the night before leaving, we were asked by the concierge to pay in advance, so I had to point out that it wasn't my use to escape at night (especially for such a small sum), and that in any rate I placed a credit card booking, so there was no problem in any case...
