Florence was our departure city at the completion of a three week trip through Europe .
Hotel Bretagne was the last of 9 hotels chosen for this vacation . My initial choice for Florence was fully booked ,so Trip Advisor and Trip Advisor reviewers to the rescue . Thank you.
My criteria for Florence was much the same as all the other cities visited . Location ,cleanliness ,sleep quality, parking, moderately priced .
Hotel Bretagne ticked all the boxes and the bonus was it had two rooms available . This can sometimes become a huge issue when planning a family vacation , you may research and choose suitable accommodations , then discover only one room is available .
The hotel is located in what I understand was a former palace . The facade of the hotel faces the Arno River which is directly across the street. Many Florence attractions are nearby. It is also the perfect place to be if you enjoy walking late into the evening.
There are parking restrictions in Florence, however you may park in front of the hotel to unload and reload your luggage . Advise reception on check in that you require parking . They have arrangements with an independent car park nearby . They will take your car there . When you depart the hotel it will be brought back to the front of the hotel . Parking fees are not included in your hotel bill . They must be paid in cash to the attendant who brings your vehicle . The charge for a small vehicle is 25 Euro's per day.
Reception area is lovely as is the adjacent public room , typical of the grandeur of older buildings in Florence.
The people working in reception were all pleasant and helpful.
I had chosen a single room . It was small with small scale furniture to match, desk, armoire, night table , luggage stand and bed . The bathroom was also small but modern . Both were very clean . The room was quiet and the bed comfortable . The nearby second double room was similar on slightly larger scale.
I had read a few complaints regarding breakfast for ourselves this was not a huge issue as we prefer a light breakfast before heading out. After an hour or so we generally like to stop at an outdoor cafe for coffee and pastries, collect our thoughts and do a little people watching . Breakfast here was pretty well your standard hotel breakfast buffet , however I would have to agree with some of the others on this issue . I found the variety was there but the quality of particularity the bread and pasties could use a little upgrading.
This hotel apparently has rooms available with a river view at a slightly larger cost ,something to consider for those who might be spending more time in their rooms.
Personally this hotel had checked off all of my requirements prior to booking . The reality is ,it did indeed fulfill each one . There were no hidden surprises .
Hope this rather detailed account helps someone out there in your choice of your Florence Hotel.
