“Excellent location and Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013 via mobile

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Europa. The staff was very helpful and safely held our luggage due to our early arrival. The location is perfect for walking to all the major sights in Florence. The room was clean and quite large by European standards. The breakfast was included and a very good continental selection. English was no problem at all when discussing anything with the staff.

Hotel Europa was in a fantastic location to explore Florence. We were warmly welcomed and found the staff very helpful. Our rooms were clean and comfortable and we were amazed by the size. Thank you - we had a very pleasant stay.

The hotel Europa is in a great location in Florence. One can walk to the major sites - Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, Academia (David). Tuscany is a short drive and Pisa is an hour away by train to which one can walk in 20 minutes. Restaurants are nearby, no need to drive anywhere to get a meal.

As for the hotel, its in an old building (as are most hotels in Florence) on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The street entrance to the hotel has a distinctive moldy odor which was always there . The elevator is tiny (2 people at best) but it gets the job done. The desk is on the 3rd floor as is the breakfast room - if you have a room on the 2nd floor , up you go. The rooms are dates but tidy, showers are small, TVs ancient but the wifi works well. Miriam and Robert do their best to accommodate your needs.
There is no parking. A vehicle is picked up by someone and taken to a parking garage for which there is a hefty price. We had a van so the cost was 60 euros a day.
The breakfasts are fine.
One draw back is if staying on the second floor there is a door to negotiate requiring a key. If a couple is moving around separately someone will be locked out of second floor access. Up you go to the desk.

They have a common room for people to use for wine drinking and relaxing and there is a computer for renters' use.

While we take this opportunity to thank all our guests we would also like to clarify a few things.

Most buildings in florence are old as they were built in the 14th century such as our building.
The street area can have a certain smell to it when it rains like in most of florence. However the hotel is not situated on the ground floor but rather on the 1st and 2nd floor of the building.Once you enter into the hotel it is completely different as stated by comments made by other guests due to the renovations we make every year. The elevator can hold up to 4 people as stated on a placard inside the elevator. The maximum weight it can hold is
320kg.Maybe they took into consideration the size and weight of people and the building itself when constructing it in those days!
Our main concern is about the garage. We have no problem with reviews.Guests are free to express themselves. The only problem we do have is when a statement has been made, such as the garage costing "60 euro a day for a minivan”.We were horrified to hear this and so concerned that we contacted the garage immediately for some clarification. They promptly came to the hotel producing a copy of the receipt they gave our guests, which quoted 45 euro per day which is the rate we have in our records.
i feel i must point out that the price for a normal 4 door car cost from 24 euro per day which you pay directly to the garage.
Please note that we do not charge commission for this service.

Regards

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Europa in April 2013. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We were greeted by Miriam when we arrived. She provided a lot of helpful information regarding the sights, shopping, and restaurants. Our room was quite spacious and quiet. Everything was clean and pleasant. The breakfast was good. We appreciated the convenient location. We were able to walk to everything we were interested in. Everyone at the hotel made us feel very welcome and comfortable.

The Hotel reception is situated on the second floor you can either use the small open cage lift or the stairs. Miriam & Robert are really helpful and make you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. The room was modest but very clean and tidy with a wonderful view through our opening shuttered window of the Duomo and red tiled tuscany roofs. Nice clean bathroom with shower. Continental breakfast is provided which includes fruit cocktail, bread, cheese, ham, boiled eggs, fruit tart and cereal. Whilst the hotel is of a good standard its the location of the Hotel that really stands out, it is only a couple of minutes walk to the Duomo and 3 or 4 minutes walk to Academia the museum where the Statue of The David is situated. The Ponte Veccio is only about 10 minutes walk from the Hotel and the Palace Pitta around 15 minutes walk away. There are lots of good restaurants within a few minutes walk from the Hotel. We would stay here again if we return to Florance.

Quiet, lovely old building with a small elevator. Great location for all the sites in central Florence. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and everyone spoke English. Breakfast was included in the price. If driving, you will need GPS because the center of Florence is a restricted driving zone. The hotel has valet parking for a fee which is very helpful.

The service at Hotel Europa is what really stood out to me. The staff here are so friendly and accommodating that I would come back just to see everyone again.
We picked the balcony room which overlooks a small private garden. This turned out to be a mistake because the garden has a pond or something that is ground zero for some of the most aggressive and cunning mosquitos I've ever encountered. I can't fault Hotel Europa for this as the garden is not their property and they can't really do anything about it. I was stupid and failed to mention the problem to anyone, instead opting to kill upwards of 15 mosquitos each day in silence (I was used to Costa Rican accommodations, where mosquitos are everywhere all the time and there's nothing to be done about it). Of course once the staff found out about it they were mortified. They gave us a little plug in repeller to keep the mosquitos at bay and that worked. They were understandably mystified that I didn't say anything sooner and just let them figure it out Sherlock-style. I guess I am the suffer-in-silence type. But in any case this scenario is apparently not normal at all and is unique to that room. They also gave us a discount for our troubles which I thought was classy.
Otherwise everything was great. The room was modest but clean and comfortable. There was light breakfast each morning and fresh coffee, and the morning news in Italian. And again the staff were just so much fun to be around that the beds could be made of nails and I would go back.

Room Tip: Avoid the balcony rooms. They are exposed to a nearby private garden that is apparently a nexus for...
