“Splendid family-run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2011

This was a most welcoming and friendly place, with elegantly designed rooms in a historic building right in the middle of Florence. The only drawback is having to climb the stairs to get to the hotel entrance, but hte staff are more than happy to help with luggage if that is necessary. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and especially liked the atmosphere of a place that is run by several generations of the same family, giving the hotel a special, very appealing character.

We arrived late morning and were able to check right in! All of the staff at Davanzati are great! I love the family atmosphere and feeling so welcomed. The room was very small and there were a few things that were annoying..1. A/C was not working consistently and when we opened the window it was loud due to apartments directly next to hotel...2. We only received 1 key; so when my husband went to smoke outside he had to leave the key in the room so that the lights, etc. would remain on...in doing so he was locked out when he tried to come back in...partly our fault for not asking for 2 keys...but we didn't realize the power would go out if key not in room...this was remedied by getting another key in the AM. 3. Bathroom very tiny, not a lot of toiletry space...although I list these few complaints overall the room was just fine!

The technology in this hotel is so ahead of so many even more modern hotels! Ipads in the lobby; laptop and on demand TV in your room...it really was nice to have all of those modern amenities to wind down at night.

The happy hour and breakfast are fantastic. If you stay here you must attend both! We met some great people and the food was awesome!

Location is also great...at first we didn't realize how close everything was...but after walking in a loop we found we were closer to everything we wanted to see then we originally thought!

When departing, we had a cab called for us which was perfect! We will definitely stay at the Davanzati again when we return to Firenze!

The location is excellent, within a short and easy walk of all the main sights. We had a very pleasant quite spacious room with a walk in closet. It is certainly not 'a room with a view', but its position did mean it was very, very quiet at night. The bed was spacious and extremely comfortable. The toiletries were excellent, but were only replaced once during our stay. The free internet and sat tv were very useful, as was the room safe.
The breakfast was good, but a little limited and the same every day. The fruit was fresh and delicious. If arriving after 9 a.m. there were usually no rolls left, but the coffee and croissant were excellent. The happy hour drinks (6.30-7.30) was a highlight, where you could meet new people or chat about the day with a couple of glasses of chianti or prosecco before heading out for dinner. Tommaso offered some excellent advice about where to eat and drink. All the desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful. From the outside, the hotel belies its pleasant interior and the initial impression with having to lug cases up the steep steps seemed not to bode well, but once we were settled in we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There is a suggestion box in reception, which I did not use, but maybe a midweek change of breakfast menu and regular replacement of toiletries would make it even better. The price -over 200 euros a night might seem a little steep, but there is a 10% discount for cash! Perhaps Trip Advisor set expectations which were too high. We would be happy to return.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back maybe quieter

A three star hotel but the very best of its kind. Nowhere in Florence is cheap, so I have this in mind when assessing value. Otherwise I loved it. All the staff were helpful, friendly, and spoke good English, from the managers to the receptionist, breakfast staff, and bell boy. We were given particularly good advice about travelling to Pisa.

If you can't manage 25 steps (and they will come and carry your luggage if you ring the bell), or if you need a cooked breakfast, or want to park right by the hotel; this is not for you.

As it is right in the heart of the historical centre of Florence you will get street noise if you leave the window open. But the double glazing was highly effective at suppressing noise and the air conditioning works fine, and is quieter than in most places that I have stayed.

I stayed at Hotel Davanzati for two nights at the end of April and had an excellent time. The receptionist was very nice and helpful and spoke excellent English. I was traveling with 3 other people so we reserved a 4-person suite and it was perfect. Plenty of space and very comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was very good and had a lot of veriety. It was easy to find from the trainstation and close to all of the sites in Florence.I would recommend this hotel to a friend and would definately stay there again. Thanks again to the staff for such a pleasant visit to Florence.

Room Tip: The 4-person suite was comfortable and spacious.

Tomasso and the rest of the family and staff make this place one of, if not the, most charming place we've ever stayed at. We were greeted with the most hospitable welcome at check in and were set up with recommendations for touring sites and restaurants. We hadn't reserved anything upon arrival, but Tomasso asked and went right to work on hooking us up with reservations at the Accedemia and Ufizzi. Cocktail reception every evening was a lot of fun to mingle with some other guests. Breakfast was outstanding. Rooms are fairly cozy, but super charming and extremely clean. They even had a Dell laptop in our room, as well as free wireless for our iPhones, and iPads in the lobby with the morning's news on them. Location was great, everything you want to do in Florence is within a 15-20 minute walk, max. No doubt, we'll go straight to this hotel upon our next visit to Florence.

We stayed at the Davanzati during our three nights in Florence because of the many superb reviews on TripAdvisor. It is great to report that they were all accurate. This is a wonderful hotel in a central location. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are friendly, professional and who are always willing to recommend and book tables at restaurants. The room we stayed in was beautiful and clean and the breakfast got the day off to a great start. Free internet access in the rooms was also greatly appreciated
and the 'happy hour' was a lovely occasion, encouraging the guests to meet and chat.
The superb galleries and museums in Florence are well documented elsewhere. We would also recommend the restaurants on the other side of the river which served great food at relatively reasonable prices (eg 4 Leoni). Also we loved an evening of opera in St Marks Church - a 10 minute walk away. This was an experience that will long live in the memory.
