“WONDERFUL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

We stayed at Hotel Desiree for 3 nights (wish we had booked for longer). The staff are amazing, friendly and extremely helpful! The room and hotel are spotlessly clean, clean towels every day, beds made etc. The breakfast room was lovely, clean, light and airy. Excellent location...literally 5 mins from train station and then 15 mins from Duomo etc. 5 mins to the market area and 15 mins from Galleria...we will definitely return here.

We spent our first night in Italy at Hotel Desiree. We were exhausted, so we really just used it for a place to sleep ~ but we found the hotel to be quite charming and very centrally located. The rooms are decorated with lovely antiques, and the hallway is adorned with beautiful paintings of Florence and Tuscany. I loved the huge stain-glassed window in our room! Air conditioning, satellite television and a private bath - all for a reasonable price. You're a short walk from the bus station, train station and the center of town. Reception Desk employees were so helpful and accomodating. We would definitely stay here again!

Stayed two nights at this hotel. The location is great - very close to the train station (Santa Maria Novela) -one street over. Close walking distance to all the sights (including the Duomo, Academia and Piazza Signoria). The hotel is located in an old apartment building, and occupies part of a floor. There are three other hotels in the same building. This is what I would call a "Pensione" more than a hotel. When entering the building, you go up with an ancient "cage" style elevator - very charming and an experience by itself. The lobby located behing a glass door in the corridor is actually part of the old corridors of the building. The decor is basic and not luxurious, but charming. The hotel is very clean (spotless in fact) and gives a feeling of a nice, tidy place.
The service at the front desk was friendly, efficient and very helpful. The hotel staff is definitely tryinf (and are very successful) in giving the best service.
The breakfast is at a cute breakfast room just off the main lobby, and again gthe staff was excellent. Breakfast itself is nice (not luxurious) and the coffee is fantastic.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for whomever wants an EXCELLENT budget hotel in a great location.

I stayed at the hotel at the 1st 3 days in Florence. I like the hotel very much. Good price for a 3 star hotel with air conditioner and a private bathroom. The atmosphere and decoration of the hotel is really good and just like a lovely apartment of my own. The front desk is 24hr, and the staff is nice and friendly. This kept me feeling safe and peace when I was sleeping alone. They also provided safety box and no worry about the treasures. Though the breakfast is not of variety but they have basic coffee, chocolate, bread, and yogurt. The room is clean, too and a TV set is provided. The location is also good, near the SMN. Anyway, I would recommend it.

The hotel sign was not illuminated so we missed it and we had to look again (luckily not a long street). The receptionist was very helpful, gave good advice on sightseeing (maybe the best part of the hotel). The room was clean, however the bathroom had a smell. Personally, would expect more towels. Unfortunately the toilet was functional only once (very bad thing, when three people sharing a room, however after complaining it was fixed immediately). The airconditioning was not the best (and Florence is quite hot in summer, so was struggling to fall asleep). On the bright side, the breakfast was ok and the hotel is very close to the train station (where most of the organised tours depart). Sorry, but would not give 3 stars...

We stayed here in mid-May for two nights. The first night, we were put in a small 2 person room with a tiny bathroom, because the guest before us had a bathroom accident in our room. But to rectify it, the staff gave us the best upgraded 3 person room with a balcony and bigger bathrroom the second night. The hotel was well priced, clean and convenient to the train station/all the city tourist sites. But, it is an older looking hotel. Like other reviews, look for the building number since the sign is hard to find. The lobby is on the 2nd floor. The rooms don't start using air conditioning until June 1st, so it can get a little stuffy without circulating air during this time of the year, but it was bearable. The internet connection in the rooms are good and free. The breakfast had a good variety of food. The staff was all very helpful, nice and spoke good English. They provided us a great sightseeing map, lots of tour brochures, mailed our postcards and even booked us advance tickets to the Uffizi Museum and a 1/2 day Accord Chianti Tour. They also watched our luggage after we checked-out while we did some more sightseeing. Remember there is a tourist/city tax that you have to pay in cash when you check out, which is common in all Italian city hotels. Overall, we'd recommend staying here, but which room you get makes a big difference.

Very convenient to the train station and the main sights. As a runner, I appreciated that river side running was less than a mile away. The staff were friendlyand helpful. On the down side, the hotel had poor wifi (we had to sit in the hall) and the street noise was an issue (lots of buses parked across the street). A basic place to stay in Florence, nothing fancy and was fine for our purposes.
