Stayed at the San Gallo for two nights this past week. The hotel is located approx 5-15 minutes from the train station (9 euros) and a nice easy 10 minute stroll into the center of town.

Now to the room...The room was of decent size with a double bed that was as hard as a rock. The pillows were flatter than pancakes. I was better off sleeping on the floor with my sweatshirt as a pillow. I just had to be sure that I had to move the dirty rugs underneath the bed.

The A/C didn't work as it kept turning off but thank heavens that is was cool at night so we just slept with the windows open.

The bathroom was actually very big compared to other hotels in Italy. It appeared as if it was recently renovated. The towels however felt like sandpaper since they have exceeded its life span.

Breakfast was decent. I loved the orange,carrot and lemon juice!! Talk about a good mix.

Overall, the hotel room was just blah. It served its purpose but I would not stay here again.

San Gallo Palace is situated a nice walk from central Florence (Duomo, market, Repubblica, Signoria, etc). It is on a bus route and near a lovely Piazza - Piazza de la Liberta. We were thrilled to find that for ~$200 per night we had an amazing suite with a terrace. Beds were super comfortable and there was a bath tub - which given how much we walked was a godsend. The fitness room had three excellent machines and a small space/map for work out - it was just outside our terrace. Breakfasts were lovely - lots of choice - decor was Tuscan. Staff were helpful - I left my sunglasses in rental car and they very quickly contacted, followed up and called us in the room in minutes. They provided good references for restaurants and excellent maps and instructions for our daily outings. Ask for a room with a terrace - they were fabulous!

Have just returned from staying here for the past 4 nights. My husband and I were very pleased with every aspect of the hotel and would definately return to it. Annoyed that a lot of the reviews criticise the location - surely if you pick a hotel for a holiday etc you do your research first and choose accordingly so have little sympathy for all those who have moaned about this on the site We liked the fact that it was located away from the city centre and afforded a quiet place to return to in the evening and get a peaceful night's sleep. This is our second stay at the hotel and cannot fault it. We found all the staff to be very helpful in particular Ezzat the barman. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and hope to stay there again in the future.

We spent 5 nights at the San Gallo Palace and we were delighted to find such a lovely hotel. The staff were very accomodating and the hotel is very, very clean. We had a good breakfast every morning and enjoyed spending time in the bar in the evening talking with the staff and other travelers. While it is a walk to get to the main sights in Florence, it is certainly not a bad walk and if you get tired it is very inexpensive to take a cab back. I would definitely stay here again should I visit Florence.
