“Nothing better in Europe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

We just checked out a couple of days ago and we were amazed at the size of the junior suite and the value pricing which included breakfast! Excellent staff that were multilingual, great AC rooms and most of all - lots of space. I will review the restaurant separately, but it also goes against the negative stereotype of the hotel based restaurant. Robes and slippers provided in the rooms, in addition to thick towels. The internet service was a bit wonky and they limit you to one password per room, to try to conserve bandwidth. This will likely be our stand out value for the entire trip. Please go there!

Room Tip: The junior suite is an excellent value for families traveling together.

We spent three nights at this hotel and were happy with all features when we checked in after a long trip from Rome. However, on our second day , our luggage was broken into using tools while we were out sightseeing. The zipper pull had been pried off of a locked backpack compartment. Since we had not counted our money down to the exact amount, we could not tell how much had been stolen. Stupidly, we did not report this since we couldn't be sure $ was stolen and the next day it happened again!!!! While the front desk personnel seemed shocked, a further conversation with the manager revealed that this had happened to other guests ( see other reviews). We were promised replacement of our luggage ( a brand new suitcase had its zipper pull sawed off) upon our return to the US but no response from the management to our letter!!

As you have mentioned, the episode you are writing about took place a
year ago.We are all amazed at what you state: why would someone open a
suitcase of one of the guests two times, breaking the zipperon one of
the two occasions, but then take nothing and, as a matter of fact,
leave the cash in the suitcase?

Our hotel provides 24 hour Security and our trusted housekeeping Staff
has been with us since the Athenaeum was inaugurated in 2004. Moreover,
each room is equipped with a complimentary safe for our guests to keep
their valuables secure.

In your particular case, you state you were promised that your bags
would be replaced; however, since the occurrence last September, until
now we received no claim from you and when you checked out you left us
no forwarding address where we could reach you.

Nevertheless, please provide us with your address and we will get back
to you on the matter

Sincerely,

Clean and modern hotel. We stayed 3 days in Florence in October 2011. Our room was lovely, it had a walk out seating area which was nice. Good selection for their contenental breakfast. It's located in a very quiet area but still in walkable distance to tourist sites, would stay here again.

We had a good stay at this hotel. It is an easy walk to from the train station (we came from Rome). It's also down the road from the galleria accademia which is where the statue of David is among other masterpieces. The hotel isn't the "typical" Italian hotel stylewise. It has a more modern look but that was completely fine with us. That being said. The rooms were comfy and clean. The carpet out in the hallway had some stains on it, but our room was spotless.

The service was polite and helpful as it should be.

The one negative is the breakfast. It is nice that they provide a free brunch, but the pickings are slim. If you want hot food, you'll have to pay extra. But with how much we paid to stay, this is not an outrageous situation.

Overall, we'd stay at this hotel again. It was nice. People are complaining about it being 10 minutes from the center. I didn't even realize 10 minutes was long. I guess people are getting lazier. Its in a quieter area away from the hustle and bustle of tourists...which I think is a good thing. You really get to explore Florence if you a little farther away. Also, after eating so much on vacation you'll feel good to walk a little bit.

On the note of food, the hotel's restaurant Ristorante Riflessi is supposed to be good. One of the few modern Italian restaurants around. So if you are tired of the traditional fare, this could be the place to go.

We stayed a couple of nights. On the plus side it's central, has secure car parking,is clean and reasonably priced. On the minus side there isn't much atmosphere, the rooms are small, there was mould (not a great deal) in the shower, the sliding doors to the wardrobe were ropey and easily came off the runners and the breakfast was disappointing (tinned fruit!) with 2 very overworked waitresses (who did their best to keep everyone happy sometimes in difficult circumstances).
For a short stay it's fine. Cannot comment on the restaurant as we didn't eat there.

Really friendly, helpful staff on front desk & breakfast. But other than that I can't say anything else positive. Its a 10minute hike to the historic centre & it feels so far out that you're missing the whole point of being in florence by staying here. It is extremely hard to find grey concrete new buildings in the centre of Florence (it really is like walking through an oil painting) but this is 1 of the ugliest. The reception is shabby & tired & we were hoping the room would be better but alas it felt like a motorway motel room. Add to that the smell of stale tobacco & sewage (in the room & strangely not in the bathroom?!) we were v disappointed. Planned to stay 3 nights, checked out after 1 & moved to much more central hotel which fitted the renaissance Florence experience.

2nd stay in this hotel had stayed 4 years ago and remembered what a nice hotel it is - rooms are on the small side; it is modern and clean and my experience with the staff was very good, we paid for scrambled egg and bacon each day ( 5 euros) as not keen on a continental breakfast - I would stay again and would recommend.
