“Good location, comfortable hotel, charming staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

Great location, near the railway station and well placed just outside the pedestrian area. Practically all the places in Florence you would wish to see are within walking distance. Hotel is very comfortable, good sized rooms (I had a double for single use to be fair) well and attractively furnished with plenty of space for two. Bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Bathroom in gleaming white marble with a lovely shower - lots of hot water - very nice toiletries, but not a lot of space for your own stuff. And although the bathroom was well lit lighting round the mirror made applying make up (even a minimal amount) a bit hit and miss.
A very good breakfast with plenty of choice is served in three pretty rooms. The are also two lounges for residents and a small and comfortable bar.
Staff at the reception desk were charming and helpful. Asked for a restaurant recommendation they directed us to a nice small local place where we were able to get an excellent light lunch. The barman and the waiting staff at breakfast were smiling, prompt and helpful.

Hotel Santa Maria Novella is a lovely hotel just a short walk from the Florence Rail Station and next to the Piazza Santa Maria. Our room overlooked the Piazza which provided both daily and nightly activities for both of us to see and enjoy. The hotel staff was very nice and knowledgeable of the area….and spoke English, which helped us. The hotel also included a wonderful rooftop area with spectacular views of the city. Breakfast was included, which was exceptional with wonderful service from the staff. We would recommend this hotel for location as well as convenience and a pleasant knowledgeable staff.

I selected this hotel from Trip Advisor. I was looking for something with a good location in the city for my daughter and I. We had never been to Florence and the only guidelines we had were from the study abroad group that my daughter was with. This hotel is charming with a wonderful location on the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. It is a small hotel right on the Piazza and the staff are wonderful. The rooms are charming with beautiful decor and very well kept. They offer a great breakfast each morning and have a rooftop terrace with great views. You are within short walking distance to the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Ufizi Gallery, Santa Croce and just across the river Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens. We saw everything! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Florence and will definitely return if I go back.

Room Tip: Rooms near main entrance elevator are easier if you have heavy or more luggage. Rooms in second bui...

This hotel was very well located. It is in the center of the piazza santa maria novella, and was close to shopping areas, a lot of great restaurants, tour start points, and the train station.

The building itself is beautiful! Decor was very classy, very old but well maintained and just beautiful. The front desk were made up of very helpful and friendly staff, and housekeeping was top notch.

The room we got was spacious, gorgeous bathroom, very comfortable. Felt a wee strange our bed was made up of two singles to make a double/queen. But small issue, hardly worth talking about. Room was well maintained throughout our stay, 2 visits minimum a day by housekeeping while we are not in. Keeps the room at tip top the entire stay there.

Breakfast was provided daily, with great variety and quality of food. Wifi was always reliable here, great connectivity and availability.

We extended our stay in florence and hence at this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay here. Would recommend and would return.

THE GOOD:
- The location of the hotel is excellent - 5 mins from Santa Maria Novella station but doesn't feel as though it is in a 'seedy' area, which some of the streets around SMN are. All attractions are within max 15-20 mins walking from the hotel.
- The hotel also recommended us restaurants for 3/5 nights that we were there, and all were great (especially Buca Mario - make it a priority!) - the other 2 nights, when we selected restaurants ourselves, were frankly not as good.
THE OK:
- The hotel, and our room, were cosy and clean and felt boutique-y. However, it was quite dark throughout, including in our rooms, and for me, the decor was a bit too dated. But of course, that is a matter of taste.
- The breakfast was quite pleasant, and all options were of quite a good quality (breads, cakes, cheeses, fruit, meats...) but it was slightly lacking in variety, and it didn't change from day-to-day. Since we were there for 5 nights, this got a bit boring.
THE BAD:
- Some of the staff were friendly, others less so. We asked someone on reception to do a few small things for us, such as making a restaurant reservation and checking to see if our mini bar was functioning properly. She promised she would, but when we checked hours later, she said she had forgotten. This was 10 mins before our restaurant reservation, and when we got there, they had no record of the reservation. Luckily they had space for us anyway.
- I asked for an iron, and was told that it was not possible as it is a 'safety hazard.' The only option was to pay 10EUR to have an item ironed. I have never been told this in a hotel before. I don't know if it is specific to the hotel or an Italian law, but it seemed illogical since people may bring travel irons or straightening irons and use them in their rooms, which would pose an equal hazard. It seemed out of line with a 4+ star hotel.

Would I choose to stay here again? Not sure. I would definitely investigate other options first - it seems likely that there is better available for the money.

Room Tip: Rooms looking onto the piazza naturally have great views, but be aware that it can be noisy.

Located in a good location in 'old' Florence, the hotel offers a terrific breakfast buffet. The sauna is excellent. Staff speak English and provide excellent service. Close by are wine shops, food shops and a pharmacy. The Napoleon Room offers a quiet space to read (though the lighting could be improved) and the bar is cozy.

Room Tip: Request a room on the square, not on the side street. The traffic on the side street is very noisy...

This 4+ star hotel is very confidently located about a 10 minute walk from the train station. Located in the piazza Santa Maria Novella, the hotel offers a great home base for those wanting to explore the city. This is a walking city, so bring comfortable shoes and get ready to be amazed.

The rooms were very comfortable and the decor was outstanding. The staff was very helpful & friendly. It's everything you would expect from an upscale hotel except this is actually reasonably priced. The hotel is kept to very high standards of cleanliness and is very well operated.

We had 2 rooms as we were traveling with our teenage daughters. One room had a SMN Piazza view the other did not. They were both very generously sized rooms (probably between 300-400 sq ft). The Piazza side had more activity during the evening but was still very quiet in general. The other room was very quiet all the time. Frankly, you can't go wrong with either room.

The breakfast was well above average with anything from cereals to egg and bacon. Everything was fresh. The breakfast room was as elegant as the rest of the hotel; just fantastic.

When we return to Florence, without hesitation, we will stay here again.
