“Repeat visit after 5 years. Wonderful stay and some recommendations.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

This was a repeat stay at Residenza Il Villino, separated by 5 years. The previous proprietor, Sergio, is no longer permanently associated with the B&B and while we had the opportunity to see him again, it was a chance meeting. We chose the same room (one flight up) with a terrace overlooking the courtyard and breakfast was included in the stay. Il Villino is within a 10 minute walk of the Duomo and surrounding sites and makes for an ideal, quiet location. The staff was new to us. Neri appeared to manage the desk during most of our visit and was helpful in making reservations at favorite restaurants. But it was Giovanni that was the greatest help with luggage, bus and walking directions, breakfast options and a smiling face. He said he graduated with a degree in biology and we hope he is successful in finding employment in that field, but it will be a big loss to Il Villino. The WiFi did not work in the room, but worked well downstairs in the dining area and courtyard. Nighttime temperatures in Florence were in the mid to upper 40’s (F) and we asked for the in-room heater to be turned on. We never did get the heat, but did get extra pillows when requested. Florence has an excellent bus system with stops only one or two blocks from the B&B, but Il Villino did not have bus maps available to help decide which routes to take for ad-hoc visits to Florence’s highlights. We were told that bus route maps are available at the Santa Maria Novella train station and we recommend that Neri obtain a few for use by his guests. Our one complaint 5 years ago was the mosquitos, but for this visit at about the same time of year there were none. Neri explained they worked hard to reduce that problem and apparently it worked.

Room Tip: To make the best use of Florence buses, check with Il Villino to see if they have bus route maps. If...

This is a lovely, quite, and reasonably priced accommodation. Neri and Giovanni were wonderful hosts, giving us suggestions, directions, and even provided us with an early breakfast on our last morning. The room was rather small, but clean and comfortable. Wifi from the room was excellent. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

My daughter and I started our trip to Italy here in Florence, and I must say this hotel was one of the highlights of our vacation! It is utterly charming, and an intimate refuge from the hustle and bustle of the main city centers. Still, as noted by others, it is quite convenient and within walking distance of all the major sights (we walked EVERYWHERE!). From the lovely, peaceful courtyard where breakfast is served each morning, to the spacious, immaculate rooms, you will truly enjoy your surroundings. And Neri and Giovanni could not have been more accommodating and helpful, plus both speak very good English. Giovanni was so pleasant and engaging helping my daughter practice her Italian! The only issue we had was that sometimes the wi-fi was difficult to access, but everything else makes up for that. When I visit Florence again, you can be certain I will stay at Residenza Il Villino!

Room Tip: Room on first floor that looks out directly on the courtyard gets a bit of a wake up call each day a...

What a perfect central location! Wonderful accommodations; we stayed in "Prospecia" on the 3rd floor overlooking the courtyard and it was fantastic. Accolades to housekeeping also because the room was kept immaculately. The hosts (Neri and Giovani) are gracious and helpful to a fault - and Giovani makes the best cappucino in Italy...perhaps the world! The breakfast taken al fresco was among the best of our entire vacation in Italy. We loved our stay and will definitely return to Residenza Il Villino on our next trip; it is not only a lovely place to stay, it offers high value.

This is a very convenient place to stay for someone who doesn't want to be on the main drag of the tourist area but still be close. Easy walking distance to the Accademia, the Museum of San Marco, and the Duomo, a little farther to the Ponte Vecchio and Pitti Palace. Breakfast is served in a small room off the interior patio, which is available for guests to use throughout the day. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, making us feel very welcome, arranging dinner reservations, calling taxis, etc., whenever requested. We would definitely stay here again on a return trip to Florence.

We spent 5 days here and I cannot say enough nice things about the place. Our room was spacious and on the top floor ... so the window looked out on the Duomo (see photo) which was our nightlight! The staff here was so gracious .... we took their nightly restaurant recommendations for dinner and the restaurants rolled out the red carpet with spectacular food, service, and delightful conversation. It was Tuscan dining at its best with extremely reasonable prices. Neri and Giovanni also pointed us in the right direction for specialty shopping. Breakfast was awesome, the WiFi the best we experienced the entire month we were in Europe, and the location just could not be beat .... quiet and secluded, but a couple of blocks from the Duomo and Academia. On our return trip to Florence we would not consider staying anywhere else but here!!!!

Room Tip: No pool or fitness center, but being in walking distance from everywhere and everything, you don'...

We stayed here 3 nights; not easy to find, but a great location, around the block from L'Accademia, and a few blocks from the Duomo. We had a quiet room, and the breakfast in the morning was more than the standard rolls and coffee. The garden area is beautiful--we ate breakfast there, and stayed out to read. I'm only giving 4 stars since the internet was spotty and very slow---otherwise, everything else was 5 star!
