We are a family of three and stayed at Hotel Colomba for five nights. We did a lot hotel research prior to our trip, but did not book our tickets until three weeks before. We were not sure what to expect, but were very pleasently surprised with Colomba. In short, this is the best hotel available in Florence that has the complete package, including a great price (most hotels around the area are much more expensive and have the same amenities), amazing location, very friendly and helpful staff and clean, modern rooms that still maintain the quaint feel of Florence.
Location - less then five minutes walk from the Duomo, Accademia and Medici Ricardo Palace (right between the two main artistic and historical attractions of Florence), on the main street in Florence that leads to all the other main attractions like the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, the Ufizzi Gallery. Bank and ATM, bus stop and several restaurants rigth downstairs. right accross the street, and the Leonardo DaVinci museum on the bottom floor.
Hotel - very clean and very modern rooms. Bathroom shower is amazing. There is also a free computer and internet access for use to anyone in the hotel... great if you do not want to spend your money at the internet cafes around town. There is an all-you-can eat breakfast every morning, that has everything from proschiutto and eggs to yogurt and cheese. Of course, my very favorite part of breakfast is the most delicious cappucino ever. Breakfast is included in the price too. Colomba is owned and run by a wonderful Italian family, and I noticed others have posted their pictures - fluent in English and very helpful and friendly. Rooms are air conditioned by remote control, and have ample storage. We were three people in one triple and had more then enough room to store our luggage and shopping (which by the way, consider to leave much extra space for your return home :). In addition, the hotel became to us much more like a home then a hotel. You will see the hallways filled with light and the pictures of Florence on the walls, with a little library and sitting chairs, all give Colomba a very friendly atmosphere.
We highly recommend staying at Colomba!!! Our favorite hotel in Florence, we would certainly return here if we could.
