“Good clean, friendly, inexpensive small hotel in the heart of Florence”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

Up three flights of stairs in an older building on Via del Sole, this recently renovated hotel has an elevator(!), a very helpful and friendly staff, spotless rooms, excellently functioning bathrooms, and air conditioning that worked perfectly throughout the five days we were in Florence during a heatwave in August 2013. So what the elevator's tiny, there's no parking or breakfast --- you've got a comfortable place to rest in the center of one of the world's great cities --- and at 58.90 euro per night for a double room (from the hotel's website)!

The Sole is in a great location between Santa Maria Novella train station and the major attractions around the Piazza della Signoria. We had coffee and pastries every morning at Caffe Megara a few steps away on the next corner and gelato each evening at Gelateria Lorenzo right there too. We had dinner twice at Birreria, downstairs from the Sole, which serves great beer along with Italian and quasi-Mexican style dishes --- not bad at all. Also, lots of other excellent dinner places right in the neighborhood.

We will definitely stay at the Sole when we next return to Florence.

I was very happy staying here and to prove it I decided to stay there again next year.
It was central, clean, quiet, good value and with friendly helpful staff.
What more can I say; this hotel suited me down to the ground and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

This hotel served our purposes and the staff was helpful and willing to answer questions. The units are on the 3rd and a half floor giving rise to thoughts of Harry Potter. The lift is extremely small and not for those with a fear of tight places. Cleanliness was the only thing we had an issue with in comparison with other places.

Room Tip: We had the room pictured and it is very small.

The room was very small with only a tiny window for natural light. The light flickered (which they fixed), the shower basin was blocked (which they didn't). There is no reception overnight, so don't lose your keys and pray they work (doesn't everything work perfectly in Italy?) There is no breakfast room, no parking, no bar/minibar, the air conditioning doesn't operate overnight. We paid 130 euro per night for this.

Dear Sir,

thank you for spending your time writing a review about your stay with us.

Reading your comment I noticed that some of your points in your review are well shown in the web site, and also when we received your confirmation, we sent you an email where all this information are all well written again.

About the other points: the windows in the rooms are standard size as everybody can see on the published pictures; About the price, September is very high season in Florence, and also this week (22-09/13 to 29/09/13) there are the UCI Road World Championship in Florence; the air condition works 24 hours during the summer: at the end of September the temperature during the night is low, for this reason the air condition is not able to work; the reception is not open during the night, but you received all the information to call us (also directly from your room) all the night. In case of problem we are able to come in hotel in 10 minutes (and be sure that we work well).

Best regards.

- good location for train station( 5 minutes) shopping(2 minutes) duomo (10 minutes) etc; clean and good staff; good wifi ; good price - a little noise because of the near bar , not 24 hours reception( if you can't arrive before about 10 PM ,you have to inform of the hotel by email or phone in advance)

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights earlier this month and what a great find it was!

We had booked double room room with ensuite and it was perfect, there was just enough space for our two cases and us. The bed was a tad on the firm side for my liking but after a long day of sightseeing I never failed to sleep at night!

Considering located on busy street the room was surprisingly quiet at night!

Staff were very friendly and available throughout the day to give recommendations on where to eat nearby. The Air conditioning was a welcome delight too.

We would definitely stay again!

Great location. Nice and clean. Friendly staff. English well spoken. Great noise insulation, extremely quiet for a hotel so near night spots. Price low to average for the area in prime season.
The third bed was a real bed, not just a cot stuck in the middle of the room. Room was nice size, bathroom well appointed. We were very comfortable.
Easy stroll from the Santa Maria Novella train station. Easy walk to the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and all other tourist areas. Loved the charm of the back streets. Finding the hotel can be a little tricky if approached for the first time from other than the St Maria Novella Piazza (behind the church across from the train station).
American coffee shop with nice breakfast pastries to the right of the St MN church in the piazza.
Definitely on our recommended list.
