This is one of the most enjoyable city hotels we have ever visited.
For starters, you will rarely if ever see a more amazing hotel roof terrace, complete with a view of the famous cathedral dome on one side and the Arno river on the other. The panoramic view provides an additional perspective on this extraordinary city and helps you appreciate its beauty even more. The terrace is also a very pleasant place to have a drink or read a book. There is even soft classical music, mainly opera, to enhance the mood. (The manager seems partial to Verdi.) Nobody pushes drinks, but they are available. When the bartender is off duty, you can make yourself a drink and sign for it on the honor system.
The hotel was created from two very old buildings. The "new" part dates to the 15th Century (or is it the 16th?) Fortunately, the hotel boasts such typical Renaissance features as elevators, air conditioning and soundproof windows. Our room which directly overlooked the Arno River, was very large and had very high ceilings. It was completely comfortable, and we slept very well. The elegant bathroom had a huge Jacuzzi tub, another welcome Renaissance feature.
Breakfast served in a rooftop room or on the terrace was excellent.
Service at this well-managed hotel was consistently competent and friendly. We thought Martina at the front desk was exceptionally able and helpful. Her suggestions helped us make the most of the city. We expect she will have a bright future in the hotel industry.
The location, right where one of the city's best shopping streets meets the river, is ideal. If you feel you aren't spending enough money on your trip, the Ferragamo store is right across the street.
Bottom line: This boutique hotel is very much part of the civilized experience you hoped to find in Florence in the first place. Of course, it isn't cheap, but it is a very good value. Of all the hotels we visited in Italy this year, this was the one we liked the best -- and the one that cost the least. Thanks to all the TripAdvisor reviewers who steered us to this special place!
