“Great home away!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

We spent 12 nights at Hotel Duomo in October. Our room was very nice with a balcony where we could hear beautiful music from the street every evening. Frederick, Francesca, and Sophia made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent!

We stayed nine nights in October, 2013. Hotel is in an excellent location in building facing the north side of the Duomo. The staff are friendly and very helpful in providing information and making reservations. The breakfast buffet is outstanding--eggs, bacon, meats, coffee, tea, juices, breads, and fruit. We will definitely stay here when we return to Florence.

Room Tip: Elevator goes to lobby floor on building's fifth level. Some rooms are one level (stairs) above...

Are you kidding me with the location? Hotel Duomo is so close to the Duomo that the view from your room is only a part of the structure...it's too close to see it all. I fell in love with opening my eyes each morning and seeing the beautiful red brick roof before me. We had a corner room so the view was out of this world!

The room itself was also updated and very comfortable. We had an oversized bathroom that had a nice view as well. Shower was nice and big too. The bed was nice and the room had TV with many chanels, not that we spent much time watching, but it was nice to have it on in the background in the mornings as we got ready for the day.

The staff was friendly and the morning breakfast was great. The had eggs and a meat each morning and I made myself an egg sandwich a few mornings. They also had the other standard breakfast foods such as ceral and breads. The cost was 6 euro I believe. I didn't eat it every morning.

There is only one elevator to the hotel lobby and stairs to the rest of the floors beyond the lobby. We had 8 in our group so it took some maneuvering to get all of us up and down with our luggage. Once we were luggage free we took the stairs down to the ground level of the building.

I'd stay here again. Just a great experience!

We enjoyed this quaint European-style hotel. It is located directly across from the Duomo with easy access to sites, shopping, dining and everything Florence has to offer. We were able to walk everywhere, including to and from the train station. The reception area is small and inconveniently located on the 4th floor. The elevator only holds 2 people at a time. Breakfast is offered for an additional charge and is well worth it. Many English-speaking guests were staying here; we shared travel stories over breakfast in the morning and drinks late in the evening. The hotel offers a small bar and lounge area. The rooms were small with updated bathrooms, adequate towels and toiletries, refrigerator! (not always found in Europe), and ample closet space. The owners and staff were very helpful in making reservations for dinner and museums, and a lovely half-day winery tour. Candy at the reception counter is there for the taking 24/7 if you have a sweet tooth :) This was one of our favorite stays in our 10 days traveling in Italy!

Room Tip: Rooms on the square can be a bit noisy but the view of the Duomo is unforgettable. Enjoy the view!

We stayed five nights in late October in room 24. We researched hotels on Trip Advisor, blah, blah, blah. Unless you're a fusspot about modern hotel amenities, stay here. You can't beat the location. Everything you want to see as a tourist is within walking distance. That really comes in handy when you have to pop back to the room for some reason. And if time is a constraint, you don't want to begin each day with a 15-minute walk or bus ride to the historical center. E.M.Forster fans will love the view; you can't get any closer to Il Duomo than this hotel. Room 24's view is spectacular, but it lacks a terrace . We made up for it by having breakfast on the breakfast room's balcony. Heavenly.

The staff was terrific. Breakfast was lovely. Room amenities were just fine, as described in other reviews. True, water does leak between the shower door and the bathtub. The doors need those rubber wiper blades to stop the water. That's a minor point for a hotel room that was in otherwise excellent condition. It can get a bit noisy with the street musicians, but we thought the windows attenuated the noise adequately. Besides, who goes to Florence to stay in a sterile environment? You're in a 15th century building, across the street from a masterpiece of architecture situated in an historic part of the city that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Center, and you're still complaining? Go to Vegas next time.

An extra special treat during our stay was provided by Mr Chris Dobson. This artist and art historian gave hotel guests a free one-hour lecture with slides on the history of Florence. It was riveting. Mr Dobson does do private tours; we may take one of these on our return trip to Florence. He is in regular contact with the hotel.

The room rate may seem a bit steep for a three star, but travel convenience and efficiency are factors that tourists ignore at their peril.

Room Tip: Unless cost is a concern, go for the view and the charm. You can take a cab from the airport right t...

Can't beat the location with the beautiful view of the Duomo! Staff was the best I've ever encountered...friendly, helpful and accommodating to special requests. Loved their recommendations for tours, restaurants and how to get into exhibits. They took care of several reservations for us, which really enhanced our wonderful visit. Definitely would return!

We spent seven nights at the Duomo at the beginning of October, on the piazza, and will never forget our wonderful visit! FRED(erico) and FRANCESCA were so friendly, helpful and enjoyable to talk with and we truly felt a bit despondent to leave them and fantastic Firenze behind. The lobby is on the 4th floor, accessed by a small elevator. While the reception area is not spacious, it does quickly become comfortable. The included breakfasts were delicious (especially the apple torte) and the cappuccino just scrumptious, thanks to our sweet waitress! The evening offered wine service in the lobby, as well.
The room was fairly roomy (by European standards) and overlooked the side of the Duomo. We woke to bells and drifted off to sleep with the sounds of street music.....accoustic guitar, accordion, or violin......just down the block a bit. The room was clean, well-equipped (safe, toiletries, hair dryer, new flat screen TV) and well maintained each day. (a very minor recommendation: hair dryer hose kept separating from the wall unit and needs replacement!).
The LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION of the Hotel Duomo is beyond compare and within walking distance of all the major venues in Firenze. This hotel is no luxurious 5-star accommodation. What it IS, is a more authentic taste of the Firenze lifestyle.......compact, warmly friendly and delightful!! We would not hesitate to return for another visit!!!!

Room Tip: If you select a room on the street, and are a light sleeper, earplugs and eye masks would be in orde...
