“Excellent Hotel ideally situated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014

This hotel was excellent for our 4 night stay in Florence. The staff were very friendly and always extremely helpful. Our room on the 4th floor was very spacious and the bathroom well equipped. The hotel was extremely well placed only being a short walk from most of the key tourist spots. Florence is a beautiful destination with many wonderful things to see and the hotel was a perfect base with which to see them from. We would highly recommend both the destination and the hotel.

Our family of 6 had 3 rooms on the 3rd floor for 4 nights May 31 thru June 4, 2014. The staff was very friendly (especially Cecilla) and helpful with anything needed. The rooms were really nice & beds were very comfortable, along with a good breakfast. The location can't be beat (1 block from Plaza de Republica) & of course it's in walking distance if everything. If we go back to Florence, staying there would be without question the place to go.

This four star hotel is wonderfully situated within easy walking distance (10 minutes on a busy day) of the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Bargello, and Uffizi, as well as most of the other places you might want to go in central Florence. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful: and having forgotten our European adaptor, they lent us one without charge: and their suggestions for eating places should be followed! Our room, on the fourth floor, was extremely comfortable and clean - and there's a lift! Buffet breakfast sets you up for the day!

Florence is an amazing city. I'd heard good things about it but it exceeded expectations, and this hotel was ideally located to see everything possible in the limited amount of time we had in the city. We booked really late so got a good deal on the rate. The room (41) was huge and they even set up an extra roll away (double) bed for us when we said we'd prefer a twin room if possible. The bathroom was also large, though I was disappointed with the feeble shower power compared to other hotels I've stayed in - it did the job though and it wouldn't put me off recommending it to friends. The lobby was small and on the first floor (but who really cares / uses a lobby) and breakfast choices less than other similar starred hotels, though more than ample.
The only real 'but'... Driving to get to the hotel was an absolute nightmare, and this was late at night when traffic was relatively light. We'd already driven around Bologna, Modena, Parma, La Spezia, Pisa and Lucca prior to arriving in Florence so we had a lot to compare it to, but the streets in Florence are either huge and frantic or small, one way and difficult to fit through (definitely not with a big car) and impossible to tell apart on satnav. Our satnav pretty much crumbled, as did we. Saying that though, our satnav was really rubbish in general so perhaps with a mini and a better piece of technology you might have no problem. The hotel offers parking but for an extra charge - you leave your keys and the garage in partnership come and collect your car to take it away and park it offsite. By the time we'd looped parts of Florence more times that I care to admit and found our way to the front of the hotel I would have been happy to give the keys to a stranger on the street to take it away.
Despite this, I'd recommend the hotel for it's location alone, though perhaps more for people travelling without a car.

The Strozzi Palace Hotel is exactly one block off the Plaza de Republica which is literally the city center. It made getting around Florence so much easier, never had to use local transportation which made it even better. The staff [Cecilia] was GREAT; gave easy directions, fabulous suggestions as to eat, and for you Hard Rock fans, it's right around the corner in the plaza.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the street, even though there are double paned windows, can still people a...

We stayed there during our short stay in Florence and it was perfect. Nice spacious rooms, comfy bed, quiet, large bathroom, with a very friendly staff. Descent breakfast as well. It is also in the middle of everything you would want to see in Florence. Afforded us a great night sleep to recover after a long travel day. It is not a resort, but it is well worth the money and we will stay there again next time we go.

You can not ask for a better hotel in terms of location in Florence. It is within walking distance of everything you need to see. The room are very nice as are the staff. The thing that lets this hotel down is that some of the amenities that you would take for granted, (well I take them for granted and whether that is right or wrong who is to say?), such as air conditioning, the availability of an iron and ironing board, a working safe and a reliable internet connection are non-existent.

This hotel has a policy of only turning on the air conditioning at a certain time of the year. We stayed a week before this date and it was unbearably hot in the room at night. We asked for an electric fan only to be told that this wasn't possible. It is obviously a money saving ploy on behalf of the hotel but surely due to the (at the time), an above average temperature at this time of the year, they would have made sure that their guests were comfortable. They advertise air conditioning on their web site yet make no mention that this is only available during certain times of the year. It was on our must have check list when booking the hotel to be honest. You need a decent nights sleep as the days can be quite tiring if you plan to visit all the sites in Florence and in a short time span which is what we had.

I wanted to iron a shirt one evening. No irons are allowed due to safety / fire regulations. This is the first I have heard of this having stayed in numerous other Italian hotels. Another money saving ploy? If it were so dangerous, then why was the room littered with other electronic devices (TV, trouser press, various lamps) plugged in with multiple adapters hanging out of the walls and so forth?

The internet was sporadic. The safe did not work properly. Breakfast is adequate. All in all an OK hotel but if we had known about the air conditioning we would have booked elsewhere as there are plenty of other hotels located centrally.
