Owner description: This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

“Great for a romantic evening!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

One evening during our stay in Florence my boyfriend and I (who have been backpacking around Europe) decided to set out to the Piazzale Michaelangelo to catch the sunset over the city. We grabbed a bottle of vino and two paninis and headed up to the top. We took bus #12 and it took us directly there. The only negative were the foreign men trying to sell us fake designer handbags and other tourist trinkets.

“Scaffolding at its best”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

There was a lot of untidy scaffolding around the statue, however the scenery of Florence was worth the walk.

“Best view of Florence without climbing a tower!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Take a taxi up to the Piazzale Michelangelo for a beautiful view of the city and river bridges. For pictures, morning would be better as most good views are to the northwest and the sun can create a strong backlight in the afternoon.

“Superb sunset over the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Take the 12 or 13 bus up the hill. The asphalt hill is packed with folks enjoying their happy hour cocktails purchased from the street cart.

“Incredible views and glorious sunset for Photographers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

If you love taking good pictures, this is a lovely Piazzale to go in the afternoon, before sunset.
It's a 30 minute walk uphill (you can also take public transport) from city center.
But, you will be rewarded with great views of Florence (including Duomo area, Bargello, several churches and bridges crossing River Arno) and its sunset.
You also have a reproduction of statue of David (at natural size) in the center of the Piazza.
