The Diplomat is part of the B&H chain of hotels. We found it no problem - directly across the road from the train station.

The reception area was quite basic but don't let that put you off as the rooms are modern and clean. Check in was quick and the staff were really helpful. The room was lovely - spotlessly clean and had a large bathroom with complimentary toiletries. Room also has Satellite TV and a minibar.

Breakfast was buffet style and consisted of breads, croissants, continental cheeses, ham, pastries, fruit. Something to suit everyone.

The hotel could not be in a better position. Ideally located for the historical centre, piazzas and shops (5 mins walk). You also have the train station opposite to explore other areas of Italy.

I would recommend the restaurant next door to the hotel called Pastarito - lovely food and excellent value for money.

I would definitely return to this hotel. Excellent value and perfect location.

You can't beat this hotel for it's perfect location next to the main train station - not only was it ideal for catching buses/trains to other parts of Tuscany, but you were no more than 5/10 minute walk from the historical centre.
The rooms were clean and tidy with the maid coming in daily. The bathroom was a little on the small side and without a bath, (but that didn't bother us,) and towels were changed daily and complimentary toiletries topped up when we needed them!
Previous reviews had mentioned that the breakfast was sparce - well, they must have cranked it up a gear because you were spoilt for choice! Coffee was great, and you could even ask for a cappuccino or expresso at no extra charge, there was always something hot, aswell as the obligatory cold meats and cheeses and the custard croissants were not to be missed! We very rarely even bothered stopping for lunch as we were still full from breakfast!
One down side was the noise of the traffic! I would definitely recommend a pair of earplugs! As we went in January we had the windows shut and it was still pretty bad even on the top floor. But it's a small price to pay for being in such a prime location.

It was right across the street from the train station so we were able to avoid the Taxi drivers, but it is about a 5 minute walk to the heart of Florence - not a bad trade-off for it's price versus location.

The room was really pretty non-descript. There was a hair dryer, but there was not any kind of shower curtain and only had a hand held shower. It may be due to their renovations, because the web-site shows a small glass partition.

If you are American, you will not enjoy their breakfast. They had a buffet dish of little hot dogs, a lot of desserts, but no fresh fruit, no eggs, no bacon, and just knd of weird biscuits. They do have the best little cafe next door where yu can buy fresh bakery goods and get an inexpensive bottle of wine or beer or any kind of snack without paying the mini bar prices. - and the people at the cafe are really sweet. ( One morning when we were kind of in a hurry because we had rented a car to go see Pisa we decided to pick upo breakfast there. I picked up a container of what I thought was peach yogurt, but the cashier handed me a straw. It turned out to be the very best peach juice I ever tasted - I guess I never had peach juice, and I have not yet been able to find it in the U.S.

The hotel is average at best, but if you need to save money, it is fine, but you will have some problems with the staff. There is no concierge service, and when we requested more toilet paper, it took 4 hours to get it.

It is not the U.S., but you can deal if the price is right.

This place is a great deal. The rooms are average size with REAL air conditioning. Some rooms even have terraces. Right across the street from the train station, which is now a comfortable neighborhood.
Breakfast buffet is HUGE and delicious

Hotel Diplomat is steps from Stazione Santa Maria Novella. When leaving the station, be sure to take the entrance on the right. Go down the steps and look to the right. Diplomat is across the street on the right. Very convenient for those staying three days or less. Not a far walk to most attractions. The neighborhood is very busy. Lots of traffic and people during the day. No idea what it's like at night because we retired to the hotel by 8 pm each night.

The room looks like it was updated in the last five years. Some dings on the walls from suitcases, but a clean room. The bathroom is very modern. Not enough towels, two bath towels for two people and a couple hand towels. Beds are pretty rock hard, but plenty and comfortable pillows. Everything is clean.

Breakfast is dull and repetitive. Same old things every day. Rolls/croissants, bland cereal, yogurt, canned fruit, brown hard boiled eggs, tiny hot dog-like sausages, awful coffee.
