I just stayed at HVL with two friends for a short break in Italy and had a great stay.
The hotel is out of the town centre and is probably about a 20-30 minute easy walk from the central train station.
The building is beautiful. The rooms are very Italian - basic and functional, which was all we needed.
The reception team were helpful and informative. They spoke good English and encouraged our attempts at speaking Italian. They helped us work out the best way to get around and even checked train times for us to get to Pisa. They even went to find us chocolate biscuits one night when we had a desire for something sweet.
Breakfast was not the best in the world but perfect for us. Coffee and tea, fruit juice, water, sweet cakes and pastry, cereals, hams and cheeses, breads, fruit etc. It wasn't 'waited' but a very informal 'help yourself' affair.
Wifi is available but it wasn't always a great connection. It didn't work in our room for example and only really worked well in the main hall/lobby. They also had a PC for general use too.
I loved the hotel and would definately stay there again if I return to Florence.
